Cack ride quality

Not driving it much these days , last was towing the tin tent so tyre pressures increased . Reduced them back down with a digital gauge , however I’m convinced the ride quality is off, just seems completely out of sorts . I have noticed a fluid leak under the near side front headlight area , is there a known weak point there ? Have it booked for tail end of next week anyway , just thought I’d moan here first .

Your Dynamic Response (hydraulic anti-roll bar) fluid is on the nearside, just behind the airbox on that side. Have you checked your fluid levels? It could be worth doing a quick check to make sure you're not critically low on anything.

Coolant is also there.

Do you know what type of fluid it is? Oily or not? Kev

Ah that makes sense, clearly something is leaking , I’ll have a gander tomorrow. Just wasn’t sure if it was my imagination, is the fluid MD only ?

Not at all. It's Texaco Cold Climate Power Steering Fluid.

Personally, I use Smith and Allan Cold Climate PSF... https://www.smithandallan.com/products/tra...over-ace-/

The test specs are exactly the same as the Texaco specification. I wonder where they buy it wholesale Whistle

Got some fluid from local MD, went to fill up, how the hell are you meant to see the level when you can’t see the fluid through the tank? Cue me filling it up to the brim then having to sook some out with a calpol syringe ffs. Drives great though Rolling with laughter Rolling with laughter

Rolling with laughter

Yeah, the design of the reservoir is crap on the L405, it is difficult to see the level. It was much better on the L320.

It does help to shine a little torch through, but it's still not easy, especially if you have nice clean fluid Rolling Eyes

Note that on the 80k or 5 year service, the reservoir is meant to be replaced because it has an integral filter.

Good to hear it's driving better Thumbs Up Kev

Just been to the garage, leak is from one of the rear dampers, didn’t even cross my mind that if the car is front end in or reversed in the drive it’s the opposite side to the fluid reservoir, silly mistake. Also found another leak from as close as we can see offside front wheel well area, quite wet , looks to have been leaking for a while. Side step is covered fight at the front, looks like there may be a cooler in that region?

There are a few things over that side:

Diesel for the FBH
Coolant for the FBH
Brake fluid master cylinder

That's a shame about the rear shock leaking. Has the garage ordered the parts to repair it? Kev

Double-check the shocker is leaking as most 405's & 322's show damp areas on the rear shockers... That said I have had a couple of 322's have 100% rear shocker failure but they are very obvious... Thumbs Up
