Am I a dipstick? What is this thing?

I twisted and pulled this (the thing with the turn symbol, not the oil filler 😁) on my 4.4tdv8 expecting it to be a dipstick but it wasn't. Anyone know what it is?

Went back fine but now thinking I shouldn't have touched it.

That’s the hole where you use a vacuum pump to drain/remove the oil from above.

The 4.4TDV8 doesn’t have a dipstick....

Just the one in the driver's seat then 🤣

Thanks, do you not just drain the oil from sump plug then? I feel old, cars used to be simple 🙂

You can... but it’s much faster and easier from above. You need a suction pump. Have a search on the forum.

The manual will cover how to check the oil level using the instrument cluster menu, if you’ve not seen that bit....

Thanks for the info, I did check it via the service menu but thought I'd verify that with the analogue method 🙂

Actually seems fairly simple to do an oil change, I like that, especially if you cover decent mileage although don't expect I'll cover much more than 5k a year so annual change should be all I need.

Thanks again, loving the amount of knowledge kicking around here Thumbs Up
