Engine Cutting Out Intermittently - 2012 4.4 TDV8

Hi,

I have found that occasionally, my engine has either missed a beat or cut out completely when driving.
I have set up IIDTool, cleared the old stored fault and then checked Faults again.
Model L322 - 2012 4.4 TDV8

I have the following

BCM-Body Control
B1D17-87 (2F) Bus circuit - Bus signal/message failure - missing a message
( on 20-01-2017 14:41:49 at 41218 mi )
B10AD-87 (2F) Rain sensor - Bus signal/message failure - missing a message
( on 20-01-2017 14:41:49 at 41218 mi )

PCM-Engine TDV8
P040D-00 (2F) Exhaust gas recirculation temperature sensor A - circuit high
( on 20-01-2017 14:41:54 at 41219 mi )

Any ideas ?

You can ignore the code P040D-00 it never clears and been told/shown that the LR diags show it as a historical fault that clears and then come back. it is due to the tight tolerances of the ECU against that sensor. Regards

Almost sounds like a fuel pump is throwing a fit or has a loose connection.......I wouldn't want to lay any money on that though.

When it cuts out, is your TFT screen still lit and all the relevant buttons/knobs still lit? i.e. do you still have electrical power?

When it cuts out, all the electricals are operating and loads of system messages are thrown up on the TFT.

Since writing the post, I have also heard some clicking in the boot by the spare wheel. But is that the compressor in there ?

Thx

I still keep getting intermittent engine cut outs. I had 6 on one day at the weekend. Sometimes it's just for a second, other times it's a complete loss of power and of course power steering and brakes etc.

I took the following fault list afte a complete failure at time stamp: 15:08:##. I have highlighted the fault messages at the point of failure.

However, when the engine blips out for just a second, there are no faults logged.

Any ideas of what could be causing this ?
Below is the fault list. Thx

I will double check, but at the point the engine cuts out, there is no visible loss of electrical feed. In fact it's more like the Blackpool Iluminations being switched on in the dash !!

Ok, drove up the motorway and all ok for 80 miles. Visited Nottingham, but once I was driving around short distances and viable speeds, I ended up with 5 cut outs in close successions. Only one was a blip in the engine beat, the others were full cut out and loss of power to a rolling stop.

Also, on 3 occasions I could not restart the vehicle.
In this situation, it goes like this
- Driving along fine
- engine cuts out and roll to a safe stop point.
- shut down (Stop button), engine already not running of course, but just shutting all electricals down.
- lock vehicle
- wait 25 seconds
- unlock
- try to start engine
- engine turns over fully and fast speed, but did not fire up
- shutdown and try again

I'm thinking, cut this be a fuel filter, pump or solonoid problem ?

For the 2012 TDV8, what could be causing the cut outs ?

From my previous post, I think the Faults lists (IIDGap) are more symptoms than causes. There are no Faults generated when the vehicle just intermittently cuts out but the engine caries on running.

Any ideas of what I could be or what to check next ?
Thx

Check pressure at fuel rail.

I was going to suggest a failing crankshaft position sensor then saw that such a fault was recorded so would be having that checked first. However with the other PCM errors, either directly or indirectly, perhaps there's a loose connection either at the PCM or in an engine harness somewhere.

Hi there, here is a quick snapshot of Fuel Rail Pressure.

It seems to be at about 33060 kPa

Any thoughts if this is about right ?

Anybody know the location of the PCM engine control module (ECM) on a MY2012 TDV8 4.4 ?

Thx
