Key less entry relay theft has been really worrying me since i bought my 2017 RR AU (6th most stolen car in the UK https://www.confused.com/on-the-road/safet...-revealed) so i did some research and found this page on JLR website....
after much research and calling around, head office and the dealers i finally found what this security feature is... (and it's free if you're in warranty) I don't think I'm revealing anything which will help thieves here (if you think i am delete the post admin) in fact it might reduce attempted thefts. There is a way of locking the ignition module? to the two keys registered to the car - and no others. The dealer has to get a spare module in incase the existing module is corrupted during process in which case it would become undrivable. If you loose a key you will need a whole new module installed costing £130 plus the cost of the new key. But that might be a small price to pay for peace of mind. Existing relay theft... ----------------------- Works by amplifying the key signal from inside the house, next to bed etc with devices within 5m of key (if that's physically possible) and beams it to another unit next to the car and keyless entry is then fooled into thinking the key is close to the car and the thieves can just open the door as easily as you do. (n.b. putting your key in a faraday pouch stops the signal (https://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B07MW44691/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) = if outside the pouch keyless entry works stood next to car but inside the pouch and next to car it doesn't - ie not signal emitted to be relayed.) at this point the doors are open but the engine is not started. Apparently the next step is to fool the car to thinking there is a third key in the car (a key has to be in the car for car to start) which then allows push button start and the thieves can drive off. 9 seconds start to finish apparently. The solution above stops this because the system cannot accept a third key. So while thieves might, at worst, be in the car they can't drive it off. That's actually a fair point -- though, interestingly LR have been locking down the immobiliser ECU for some time -- it's called 'one shot programming'

somehow they're fooling the car into thinking there is a key inside to start it. i'm not sure relay of signal alone will do this. but perhaps it does..

I just put my keys in an old tin with a lid overnight. I know I could disable keyless entry but I do use it and value it. Geoff |

I had the Meta Track VTS/S5 fitted to mine. It’s CAT 5 plus Thatcham approved. It includes a key fob and app that prevents the RR from starting even if the key is simulated to be in the vehicle. Without the fob it just won’t start. This prevents the signal from the key in the house being used to open/start the RR (key cloning). It’s been fitted for a while now and I’ve had no problems.

I've just put a deposit down on an L405, one of these www.keylessprotector.com will be my first purchase and the battery removed from the spare fob.

I usually put my key in a double skinned metal wine cooler.......but there's been times I'd place it as close to the front door as possible |

Wrapping the keys in kitchen aluminium foil works fine, when I tried a metal tin the car still opened. Only Range Rovers since 1988 |

That surprises me. Beyond 6ft. or less without any shielding mine won't respond at all. |

they boost signal to make it look like key is right outside the door? is that what you mean? bridge it with one device at the house nearest the key and another next to car. --
