you've got his name
why not report it to police
say "hello....I believe a vandal with the name...so and so....has damaged my vehicle by writing his name in the glass"
no proof it was him of course...but you never know if there was any CCTV around, the old just might have a look

Thanks Rambles....unfortunately he etched C**T which I took to be his name...just can't see the police here in Dundee following that up somehow as there are far too many a***holes called that!! Confused

any CCTV around?

I hate scroats like that. Rather than work themselves so they can have a decent motor, they prefer jealously.
If I can't have it, I'm going to make sure they can't have it either.
w**ker.

I know Rambles...my son thinks it happened last weekend when we were in Dundee watching the football, the car was parked in a side street which was a bit tinksville and could well have been a target for some little Censored with a grudge.

Not nice at all, but better it's on a replaceable piece of glass rather than scratched into the paintwork.

Being glass, you can probably claim from your insurance without it affecting your NCB

If you get an automatic center punch you can crack the glass and get it on insurance - not that I'm suggesting that of course Whistle
I had an S class Merc and the rear windows in those are prone to getting moisture in the edges and causing the glass to 'milk' up with the effect the rear heated screen doesn't work - I had it changed by Autoglass for my £40 excess - no quibbles as the insurance policy is fully comp and covers all the glass in the vehicle Wink Have a look at your policy - you may be pleasantly surprised Wink

id also just do this as im sure you'll be covered maybe it will cost £50 - £70 excess but it doesnt count as a proper claim "RANGEISM WILL NOT BE TOLERATED"

Forget polishing as even if you get it out that area will be shinier than the rest of the glass and look awful.

You need a new window but you may be covered under your insurance....

Sorry Gary, that's utter b0ll0x. I've done a few over the years and all but the deepest scratches will come out with a little patience. I've also never noticed glass being any more shiny in the polished part.

BTW, even deep scratches can be ground out by a specialist although this can start to have an effect of the optical trueness.

Dom.

We had a scratch polished out of a window on the house and although there is no scratch, there is now a "wobble" on the glass. Accross a large area, I think it would look a lot worse.. New window time I'm afraid!

Ask any glass professional and he/they will tell you that the polished area (even if successful) will be much more shiny and very noticeable.....

My shock was not aimed at you just the idea of many that polishing may even be an option on such a new and desirable car. Smile

Not in my experience and not in the experience of the professionals. I have personal experience of these people as well.

Of course, if you're talking about some windscreen fitter, well they fit windscreens for a reason Wink Oh and they have a vested financial interest in selling glass. Whistle

Given the amount of damage that windscreen fitters usually cause I would always polish before replacing.

Either way it sucks that there are such scum out there causing the damage in the 1st place. Makes my pi55 boil. One of the reasons I'm considering a job offer in the UAE. Don't tolerate that over there and I won't be paying UK taxes to keep the scum alive either.
