4 Pot Brembo conversion.

Hi all.

I've relatively recently bought a 2010 3.6 L322 and whilst it is superb in many ways, I find stopping it sometimes a bit worrysome when compared to my previous Brembo equipped car.
As a potential lockdown project, I am considering upgrading it to 4 pot Brembos and have a couple of questions.

I'll refurbish some used calipers but wanted to check that there was just the one part number covering the 4 pots, namely SEB500390?

Is the brake master cylinder fitted to my 2010 car the same as a factory Brembo equipped car?

Other parts I'll need are new discs, pads, flexi hoses and back plates, anything else I should be aware of?

I'm sure someone here has done this so any links would be super helpful as I could only see one for a 6 pot conversion.

Hi Grey17,

This is something I've been looking into for my MY10 3.6TDV8, I did do a bit of research a while back on this fantastic forum and I think you need to change the hubs also (I maybe wrong it was around 6 months ago I looked into it) I think the calliper mounting holes on a MY10 are different and will not accommodate the Brembo Caliper unless the hub is changed....

Have you started to accumulate any parts yet?

Hey Robster.

Great to hear from you and thanks for your reply...... nice to know that there is someone else out there considering the same upgrade.

I've not heard about the hubs being different as they are the same part number from 2002 - 2012 and link here for reference.

IIRC you would need the 4-pots from a RRS as that version has the larger mounting holes. MY10-12 have the same size holes as all RRS, D3 & D4, larger than the earlier L322.

The appropriate pad wear sensor lead will be required.

Totally agreed. One may as well...


But...In general I wouldn't do it at all. I would just stick to the basics and make certain my master cylinder and lines work well, my fluids are fresh, and my discs and pads are good. The braking power will be plenty to stop it. The bigger Brembo's are just well that, bigger. But also add extra weight most likely. And still don't give the sensation of super brakes anyway. I think it would be a waste of money project with very limited measurable benefit.

I am in the same boat, 2009 facelift 3.6 with standard brakes

I've scoured the net and not actually found anyone who has completed a 6 pot 4.4 tdv8 brake upgrade yet

My understanding was that we will require the hubs from a donor 4.4 too so if you now differently please let me know Thumbs Up 2010 MY Range Rover 3.6 TDV8 Vogue SE - Stornoway Grey with Semi-Aniline Ivory Leather and Piano Black Trim

I contacted my local main dealer to get the gen straight from the horses mouth so to speak on the Brembo conversion and what parts are needed.

So, here is a definitive list with part numbers and prices. This is for a 6 pot Brembo conversion and it seems that all components are interchangeable or, no change or confusion about mountings and bolt holes. Copy and paste:

After a bit of research on my parts catalogue I can confirm the calliper mounting points, hubs and master cylinder are the same. The rear brake set up is mostly the same on both vehicles however the pads have a different part number. The parts required for a front conversion are as follows:-

Callipers- LR139257 & LR139255 -£779.33 Per Side + VAT

Discs- LR031845 -£86.10 Per Side + VAT

Disc Securing Bolt- SDG100000L - £0.90 + VAT (X2)

Pads- LR114004 -£276.53 + VAT

Pad Wear Sensor- LR012824 -£22.66 + VAT

Flexi hoses- LR075628 -£37.34 Per Side + VAT

Disc back Plates - LR011721 & LR011722 -£35.69 Per Side + VAT

Disc Plate Bolts- LR018509 -£0.66 + VAT (X6)

New mounting bolts- SYG500050 -£4.63 + VAT (X4)

The Flexi hoses are the same as those currently on the vehicle however I would advise if you do go ahead with the conversion to replace them.

Looks like a project for a little later the the weather warms up a bit!

I have. Six pots fit on a 2010MY (facelift with TFT instruments) 3.6 - you don't need the hubs.

I balanced with the rear brakes from a 4.4, too, as the rear discs are bigger - calipers, carriers and discs. All of the parts (apart from wearing parts) came from a donor 4.4 on eBay..
