4.4 identifying an oil leak

So a few weeks back I purchased a 2010 4.4 TDV8 with 125k on the clock. Runs great, drives well and has no smoke out the back at all and no smell of burning oil etc

I have however noticed that it has either a current leak of oil or one that has been rectified and simply not cleaned up and I am looking for your help to potentially identify which.

Firstly the underside has quite a bit of oil on it however it's not leaking and doesn't leave a stain on the ground. I appear to have uprated hoses on the manifold and some pipes aren't clicked back in to place and one or two bolts are missing

This makes me think potentially someone has been at it and fixed the issue, I have paperwork for a 'plenum gasket' replacement and unsure if this ties up

The oil cooler also looks relatively clean from checking the turbo pipe at the back which itself looks a bit oily

My feeling is that potentially a leaking cooler has been fixed previously and now the small turbo pipe is leaking

Just wondering if anyone else has any thoughts on the matter? Few more photos for reference

The cost for the gasket replacement might indicate the work time involved which may align with the cooler gaskets replacement but you could replace the o-rings with minimal effort and cost to see if the leak stops.

I assume you have removed the cabin filter scuttle to inspect?

Oil cooler does looks clean compared to the rest around it so may be new, if there’s no new leaks I’d clean as best as you can & monitor it & replace the missing bits.

It may just be me but the 4 hoses look a little short? (Edit, just checked a pic of mine & im mistaken) & O/S rear jubilee clips are skew so definitely been off.

Oil feed looks wet.

I’d be doing the o rings as a matter of course, but I think that they probably are leaking and need doing. Cheap and easy fix. May not be the whole leak. But it is definitely part of it. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Clean, replace O rings, monitor.
O rings are a special Viton typebut I'm sure you've seen that already in the Wiki Thumbs Up

I'd also be tempted to look deep down in the vee where the oil cooler sits.

If it's not leaking, then there may be some residual oil sitting in there that's slowly making its way down the bell housing in a bid for freedom.

Definitely do the turbo feed O rings, costs pennies and a few minutes.
