I had same problem. Hardwoods replaced the housing. Fairly simple job but housing is surprisingly expensive for a metal bracket. The spare part had to be ordered.
It fixed the problem.

Just wondering, can I assume it's the filter on the nearside wing and if so, does the car seem to drive without too much loss of performance?

If iso it may be a failing water in fuel sensor giving this. Try taking the cap off the bottom of the filter housing, it looks like an old fashioned spark plug cap. Give it and the contact on the filter housing a clean and see what happens. Additionally, drain the fuel filter to see if there is in fact any water in it. The drain is on the bottom of the housing, connect a tube leading to galss or clear jar on the ground. The info is in the WM in the Wiki.

The sensor is only available as part of the housing/filter assembly at about £250 plus fitting IIRC.

BUT there may be a much cheaper way if bits are still about.

If you can get a code from whoever is telling you about a new housing post it up. Cheers
