Battery conditioning how do you do it?

So just had battery replaced at two years old foc under warranty I am thinking about fitting some form of battery conditioner.
I know ctek are a popular choice but trailing cables across driveway are not ideal. I know solar has been discussed many times previously but obviously things change and efficiencies improve.

So looking for something that can be permanently connected to the battery albeit unplugged whilst running. Or ideally an efficient solar system that can be wired into a dash plug for easy connection/disconnection when vehicle is used.

Interested in what you use and how you have it connected for ease of use
RR is parked outside facing south, off road and currently only used once a week like many others. 2012 tdv8 Westminster arrived Jan 19 gone Dec 23

I use a CTEK MXS 10 with a CTEK extension lead connected into a 12S white (auxiliary) plug (bought from the
fullfat shop) and plugged into my 12S socket (part of my towing setup), on the rear of the car once a week.

Ditto to above via towing electrics. Top it up every 2 weeks for 6 hours so cables on drive for a short period of time only. I use an ctek mxs 10 with a 13 pin adaptor from the forum shop. It's the mutts nuts Thumbs Up Gone to a good home: 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

C-Tek user here as well, plugged in via the 13pin towbar socket......if you have a towbar [7pin or 13pin] that's your best bet.
If you haven't, then I would suggest a decent 'intelligent' charger [C-Tek or Accumate etc] & run a cable from the battery to the front grill. These charger plugs have a waterproof cover so shouldn't present a problem.
You can get a solar panel to sit on the dashboard but I think the charge rate would be far too small? 2012 Orkney Grey Westminster 4.4TDV8 with Ivory interior.........nice!

C-Tek using the comfort connector that’s permanently connected to the battery. The plug gets tucked away under the front grill until I need to plug it in. Got - 2017 SDV8 Autobiography in Loire Blue

Was using a C-Tek 3.8A connected to a C-Tek extension cable running from the front grill up round the side of the engine bay to a fuse and the bulkhead battery connection (ground to the ground bolt on the suspension turret, the whole length in some plastic protective sheathing). Haven't been keen on the C-Tek 'comfort' connectors - even with the waterproof cover I've had a bit of dirt or something on the connectors, which sometimes get warm when charging indicating a poor connection. Have replaced the connector on the extension cable once as it looked quite tarnished. And of course with the 3.8A model it takes ages to charge.

So just got a Numax 10A charger - about half the price of the equivalent C-Tek model. Looks like good build quality, and Tayna stock it and it has good reviews so I'm happy it's not just cheap foreign rubbish. Slightly cheaper here as free postage: https://advancedbatterysupplies.co.uk/product/numax-121000l/. Uses 'Anderson' connectors. Got some off eBay (item #264916997648), cut the C-Tek connector off the extension cable and fitted one of these. You can fit one of the rubber covers over the 'open' end of the connector to waterproof it when not in use, and it is less conspicuous than the C-Tek connector when tucked into the grill.

At present I have a permanently installed Aldi XS Charger in the boot connected to the supply to the rear fuse board and an local earth point. The charger is surprising effective and IMO is every bit as good as a ctek.
I run an extension lead into the boot on top of the lower tailgate at the edge where it doesn't get trapped by the upper tailgate. The arrangement works well into as far as the charger is protected from the weather and other hazards.
Just need to remember to disconnect the lead befor driving off. Smile

I tested the chargers from Aldi and Lidl against a CTEK following similar statements in a caravan forum.

The first thing is they are worlds apart as they should be for the price difference. The supermarket chargers did not restart a charge if there was a power interruption or a glitch, the CTEK carries on from where it left off. The rating was much higher on the CTEK compared to the supermarket ones. The quality of the case and leads was far superior on the CTEK and most importantly the accuracy and program steps was much better on CTEK.

The Aldi and Lidl chargers are incredible value for money but if you want a good charger, CTEK is streets ahead of these two. BMW i3 Electric Car

Fattie gets no special attention from the Ctek but that’s mostly because it’s plugged into the e36 M3 in the garage permenantly on “supply” mode.

Not sure if that’s the correct setting but it seems to work well enough. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

great bit of kit, i just adapted a grey 7 pin plug so i can charge from the towing elecs works like a charm Thumbs Up
i have the original LR battery on mine too so it is 9 years old!! Shocked since i reconditioned it with the above charger i have had no issues so far. I am going to invest in a new battery and put this one as a second in the boot. 2012 Vogue 4.4 TDV8 - Current

Be careful connecting an 'old' battery in the boot with a 'new' one under the bonnet.
The 'old' one will tend to drain off some of the charge from the 'new' one when parked up.
Not a massive problem until the 'old' one is really duff or loses a cell.

Remember, thanks to eco initiatives, our batteries only charge to 80%
This means our 100 A hr battery only has 30A hr of useable energy ! ! !

(The lower 50% is in the 'battery damage' range) Forty years of progress. 1972-2012

i will put a split charge relay in so when the ignition is off it is effectively off line! it will only be there just in case the primary discharges after being left for long periods. 2012 Vogue 4.4 TDV8 - Current
