Battery Conditioner

Hi
I’ve looked in the handbook of my 2018 Vogue and it doesn’t seem to want any Battery maintenance.
On my other car I can attach a charger into the cigarette socket to maintain condition.
As I’m not using the RR at the moment, does anybody know if you can do the same, either on consol socket or load space socket? And is it advisable?

I think you’ll find that the 12v sockets are only active when the ignition is on, so you can’t use them for battery charging.

I charge directly to the main battery in the boot under the spare wheel. You will need a battery conditioner rather than a charger e.g. accumate or optimate. I connected one of these leads to the battery to make connecting the conditioner easy:

If you don’t have a power source available (like when I park mine at the airport for a month) I’ve connected one of the Optimate Solar Chargers and it seems to work well keeping the battery topped up. Because we’re not using the RR much at the moment I’ve connected the solar panel up on the drive and stuck it in the front window. It’s just easier then running a cable from the garage.

There are past threads on this subject if you run a search. MY23 D350 HSE

If you have tow electrics you can buy an adaptor through this site's Shop which plugs into the tow electrics socket. There are different versions depending on which charger you want to use. I've just ordered one.

Older 322s could be charged via cigarette lighter socket as the sockets remained live even though the car was locked. Only Range Rovers since 1988

Sort of hi jacking this thread. My car hasn’t moved for two weeks nor will it for the foreseeable. My worry is that the battery will drain and when things get back to normal I won’t be able to start the car. I don’t have off street parking, so I can’t plug in a trickle charger - not that I have one. I’d really appreciate any suggestions or products I could source from the internet.

Thanks

Andy

I'd start it and stay in the car once in a while. Even ten minutes should do the trick. It's not as though there's much vehicle pollution right now

Andy, I described a solar solution above that will work anywhere. I’ve used it for a month last summer while mine was parked at the airport and my RR started fine. MY23 D350 HSE

Works better in the front if you have blacked out rear glass. MY23 D350 HSE

Another vote for the towing socket adapter from the forum shop. It’s a brilliant bit of kit if you have towing electrics.

I use mine with a CTEK CT5 Time to Go conditioner and it all works well. By coincidence, I plugged it all in today, given that my Range Rover is now in dry dock until we can do unnecessary travel again. 2004 L322 4.4 V8 Vogue Bonatti Grey

The charger comes with croc clips & a hard wire option.

I connected mine up to the charging posts under the bonnet (along with an anderson connector) - The CTEK socket is at the bottom of the picture and the charger cable just plugs in there.

I have a deployable tow ball - so getting to the electrics means activating it - which is more hassle than opening the bonnet.....

Thanks for the suggestions, but please bear with me here. I am not technically minded at all and having looked at various solar chargers on the web, it seems that you need to attach the cables to the battery terminals. That makes sense, but surely that means I have to leave the bonnet loose and the engine bay accessible to any scrote that walks past the car, which is parked on the street. In addition, wouldn’t the cable need to run through the door, so when the door is closed the cable would be pinched and have reduced functionality?

As I said, I’m not technically minded and probably over thinking this, but would really appreciate a noddy guide.

Thanks

Andy
