2004 Range Rover HSE 4.4 V8 Giverny Green
deployable side steps and lifting

Okay to use those jack points to lift the entire car? I'm having a lift installed tomorrow. Also is there a specific puck to be used on those points?

We had someone on here a while ago & turned out they had after market plastic steps.....

I had the deployable steps on my Ford F150, and they were by far the most useful steps I've ever had on a vehicle. Until they were about 5 years old and they stopped wanting to go up in the winter. There were no grease fittings on them and using surface applications of WD-40 was only temporarily useful. Getting them apart to clean and lubricate them was a giant pain as they were clearly never made to be serviced. They got to the point that it was just easier to turn them off and not use them. So, unless you're prepared to disassemble them and clean them every couple of years, stay away. Note: We get frequent snow storms where I live and it gets down to -20 to -30C pretty regularly during the winter months. More mild climates may not have the issues I had. 2009 L322 SC

I lock them deployed and marine grease them to service, so far so good... I could see wd40 doing more harm than good given it isn't a lubricant. I didn't personally fit them, the car is autobiography and just came with them. If it were my choice I'd have gone with standard steps.

An important distinction is that they are not 'factory' - even if spec'd on a new car, they are dealer fitted - which only really matters when it comes to warranty - they have their own and are not covered as part of the car - therefore cannot be extended.

As they are not on the build sheet - I guess they should also be declared as a modification - I hadn't thought about that before Confused

I need this house arrest to come to an end so I have better things to do than interfere on threads like this Whistle

To anyone else as expected craig is on point as usual...

1.) get in the car, hold down button press ignition, steps will lock away
2.) drive up to the 2 posts until they're parallel with the front seat cushion
2.) place arms on jack points or steps


Tested it out by putting the summer turbines on

New questions... turbines aren't supposed to be directional are they? As on one side the spokes sweep back and on the other they're rotating forward. Seems like for the type of money they cost they should be directional.

I thought about a wind up but someone would spoil it.....

No they are not directional, so no need for 2 spare wheels.

But somehow attractive - at least to me - I think it's the best looking 22" wheel

I never noticed and when I went to refit them was certain the dealer screwed me... selling me two sets for the same side. Now that I noticed it is going to bother me. Laughing
