2011 L322 thinks trailer is attached? Green light flashing

Hi all

My 2011 4.4 tdv8 flashes the green trailer light on the dash when indicating right. Just wondering if anyone knows why this is? Also this causes the blind spot monitor not to work as the car thinks a trailer is attached.

Any ideas on how to sort this?

Thanks in advance!

I would start by looking for any signs of moisture or corrosion in the sockets.

I concur with Mike. I bet if you shine a torch in there you'll see some nice green corrosion on one of the terminals. Electrical spray contact cleaner should do it??? Gone to a good home: 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

Hi there,

I'm not sure if this can help or if it applies to your RR. On my 2003, I had the same problem. It began after I had new trailer wiring installed. I remedied it by unplugging the tow module from the trunk when not towing, and only plugging it back in when I was towing something. I've been doing that for about a year now with no further issues. Maybe that can help you temporarily until you have time to properly investigate the problem.

Hi guys,

Apologies for the late reply! Very rude!

Just to confirm Baltic Blue, what sockets are you referring to? My car does not appear to have the towing pack as cant find a tow bar nor any electrics relating to that underneath the car.

Best

Sorry,
I was referring to the 2 sockets associated with the tow pack.
One with a black cap and one with a white cap., but if they are not fitted on yours, then obviously not the problem.

Yes I thought they would be the obvious culprit if fitted! Any other ideas? Maybe something is shorting in the fuse box?

The external harness connects to a socket in the back lower edge of the spare wheel well. A blank plug should be fitted but if missing then moisture could get to the exposed terminals.

That would be it! There are some wires with a broken connector - pic attached.

No idea - I’ve not owned the car long! I assume when the spare was put in it broke the plastic connector!

Any ideas for a safe fix? The plastic block connector has broken in 2 pieces

Tape up any leads still properly attached to the plug, then isolate and tape up every other stray wire... you can probably buy a new plug from the dealers if you want to use it... Pete

Yep, it's a Range Rover, anything is possible, it may need a cap, it may need the ECU resetting or it could be damage to the loom just under the black strapping, did whatever damaged the plug squash the loom and short the wires...!! Pete

I suspect a previous owner has removed the towing kit, and that broken connector and set of wires only goes under the bumper to where the electrics would have been so isn't connected to anything. However it maybe that the towing electric module is still connected to the car in the right hand panel as per Marshall's earlier post/picture and that broken socket would have connected to a loom coming out of that - and that is probably where the problem is. See if there is another set of similiar wires coming out of the right hand panel. Current Fleet:-
