Australia 2012 Range Rover Autobiography TDV8 Bournville

The 2 O-rings are on a pipe that fits into the back of the oil cooler. The o-rings are not available from LR as a spare part, only supplied as fitted to a new pipe which is not simple to replace, so best to get the mentioned Viton o-rings which should last very much longer. IMO it is futile to replace only the O-rings as the cooler gaskets deteriorate for the same reason as the o-rings, however changing the o-rings is quick (under 30 mins?) so might be worth doing by themselves.

A new LR oil cooler/filter housing assembly doesn't guarantee that the gaskets won't go hard and leak in the same sort of use cycle as LR have not changed the part number of the oil cooler assembly indicating that the internal gasket is unchanged. Would you trust a cheap copy oil cooler assembly's gaskets to be as good as the LR versions, let alone better so as not to also cook from the heat from the EGR cooler on which the oil cooler assembly is mounted? Cleaning the faces of the old cooler to fit new gaskets would be avoided if a new cooler assembly was to be fitted but the face of the EGR cooler still has to be cleaned and that's the one that has to be done carefully to avoid debris getting into the oil-way that supplies oil directly to the bearings etc.

Smoke emanating from around the back of the engine could be from a split underneath one of the rear short hoses and removing the cabin air intake would greatly increase visibility at the back of the engine. The cabin intake can be removed in 2 minutes so perhaps the garage did remove it and still couldn't see the source of the smoke, assuming that the garage knows the L322 engine bay. It is almost unbelievable how accessible the back of the engine becomes when the cabin air intake is removed.

@Fox889 makes total sense, i´d only want LR parts in the car but then again I havent read too much about the whole thing braking. Seems only the gaskets are the problem...

@GraemeS Crystal clear explanation, thank you. The cabin intake came off straight away and they still cant see the air leak.
They will now test the EGR system separately to see if that leads to any findings.

@DrRob great suggestion but car is undrivable. The current shop I have it is the ex LR dealer so he should know what he´s doing - I hope Rolling Eyes RR Vogue 4.4 TDV8 - 11

So, inlet manifold is now gone and they still cant see for certain where the air leak is coming from.

The see smoke coming from the very bottom of the engine and he mentioned something about a vacuum thing connected to the EGR?

Search continuous this afternoon.... RR Vogue 4.4 TDV8 - 11

So small update without any conclusive findings;

They have smoke tested the EGR system separately and they suspect two separate faults;

* Faulty or stuck EGR valve

* Leak at the very bottom, between the EGR and the block

They will now take apart the whole EGR which apparently is a bit of a nightmare. EGR valve easy enough to replace but the second air leak has them scratching their heads...

Any one ever come across anything similar? RR Vogue 4.4 TDV8 - 11

New EGR Valve and new gasket between EGR and block ordered...fingers crossed this solves it... Rolling Eyes

By lack of threads in the forum, I get the feeling these are both quite uncommon issues?

The mechanic raised a small concern that air may have gotten into the block meaning it could create all sorts of mess in there moving stuff around....let´s hope not... RR Vogue 4.4 TDV8 - 11

Yes, the oil cooler gaskets had leaked so much onto the EGR that it was soaked in oil and had siezed, this caused big boost leak.

Replaced EGR, EGR gaskets and oil cooler gaskets. Did the o-rings to the turbo pipe and the 4 hoses by the inlet manifold at the same time.

Sounds like a first on the forum by what I can find but goes to show the importance of not delaying maintenance/repairs....

EGR is right at the bottom of the V so a pig of a job according to the indy.

Thank you for the clarification.
Im also having problems.
Codes range from:
P0235
P1247
(MAF replacement)

Second codes
P004B
P004D

When trying to see if there were any vacuum leaks I’ve found out a oil leak at the back of the engine RHS.
Origine to be determined
I’ve become worried.

Tomorrow I’m going to see a LR specialist to try to find out more.
I will post here as I think it’s all more or less the same issues.
Regards to all
