Gotcha, thanks for the recap.

When did the restricted occur during all that?

If it's been there since your OP, then you still have the original problem, no?

.

. Cheers, Greg

@GGDR

After I changed the oil and the oil dilution went from 7 down to zero, I cleared the red dpf sign by clearing all faults. I bought the IID blue tooth around 6-7 weeks ago and used it straight out of the box. Not sure what software version it’s on.

So, got a call from the garage, they replaced the manifold sensor that relates to the P040D-00 (2F) fault code I was getting - reset the faults and the Restricted Performance message has gone and not come back. they test drove for 15mins, all ok. I picked it up and did a 20mile round trip, it did it's regen thing, soot levels went from 20.7 to 4.2 and still no sign of the Restricted Performance warning!

I know on my other thread it was suggested that fault code would not be the cause of my RP.....

https://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic53866...3245ba0070

However, reading into that fault code a little more, most people seem to report that when monitoring the live value of the temp it is reading, it sits at 100 degrees and doesn't register anything. I can see why that wouldn't put it in RP as it's within what it expects. However, when I monitor mine it was spiking, often over 900 degrees!! Now I think about it, it makes sense why it would put it in RP, it wouldn't want it to get that hot and potentially cause a fire.

So, all sorted. Cost to supply and fit the sensor, plus supply and fit rear pads that were low, £361. Then another £500 to supply and fit the Start Motor (although the AA will pick up that bill) Also spent £430 on the gearbox flush and trans/diff fluid change a few weeks back. So the bills are stacking up on this thing, lets hope it settles down otherwise I'll fall out of love for it and I may be tempted to revert to plan b Wink

Glad it's sorted Mark. Thumbs Up

It is at first a reasonable deduction that dead sensor saying 100 degrees is the same sensor as the one in the manifold throwing the code P040D-00 (2F). And therefore a conclusion they are one in the same,

However we worked out that the sensor that mostly sits at 100 degrees is post turbo #2.
Boot it enough to spool up the secondary and you'll see it rise.

Have a light read here, quite a journey:
https://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic48131.html

This was a feeder to the P040D-00 (2F) fix you probably already read:
https://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic50202.html

There are 5 EGT sensors but only 4 values that will show on the IID. We established that the sensor in the manifold's value isn't read by the GapIID, (other than when it throws an error).

You can see here there are more sensors than the IID shows:

Yours? Dunno. Pro-level tools can do more than the IID and perhaps there was an error that the garage's tool cleared, one that the IID didn't see.

What I don't get is where did you see a 900 degree reading? On what sensor was that?

But chuffed you have your car sorted before Christmas. Cheers, Greg

So a summary of the symptoms and resolution, so it may help others:

* Purchased the car in Nov 19, bought GAP tool and noted the fault code below. At this point no noticeable symptoms

* Then a couple of weeks after purchase I received a red Restricted Performance warning on the dash and the car went into a limp mode
* Pulled over and switched off for 5 mins, restarted error went. Come back after another 30mins of driving.
* Scanned with GAP IID Tool, only fault code showing is the one above. When cleared, dash warning went away.
* monitored live values, noticed a intermittent but very regular temp spike on Bank 1, sensor 2, it would spike up to 900 degrees.
* Over coming days issue gets worse, RP warning comes on more frequently. To the point when cold as soon as I clear codes it comes back immediately. When driving the gap between it coming back on gradually gets longer to around 5mins. So the temperature seemed to affect it.
* Took to a trusted garage, they could not see any other fault code other than the one the GAP tool read.
* Decided first step to replace faulty sensor, using GGDR's guidance via this thread (great help by the way)
https://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic50202.html?highlight=p040d
* Exhaust gas sensor replaced: LR052169
* Cleared codes, extended test drive, plus 20 mile drive myself where car regenned, RP warning showing no sign of coming back up. GAP IID shows no fault codes.

My assumption is that the exhaust gas sensor was breaking down and giving inaccurate readings, rather than just not working and the acu reading 100 degrees. The fault code I had seems to be a common one but most don't get an RP warning, some even leaving it and living with it. However, unlike the 100 degree measurement others seemed to have, mine was seeing a regular spike of 900 degrees, so I assume hits a level which was enough to put the car into Restricted Performance (probably as it was worried the car was going to spontaniously combust!!)

Yours is odd for sure Mark.

Bank 1, sensor 2 - are you sure about that?
This is on the drivers side bank.
So quite odd.

The sensor that normally read 100degrees is Bank 2, Sensor 1.
That's located post-turbo #2.

Were the error codes were cleared by the garage using their tool?
Or yours?

Sounds like the garage did a good job, (main dealers have cocked up the manifold sensor you had replaced); might be worth mentioning them here if you like?

Here's an old screen shot of mine:

Here's the log / graph showing the spike. This was at idle (the spikes went a lot higher when driving)

The garage used their tool, but it wasn't a Landrover specialist, just some generic MAC tools tablet thing? They couldn't get it to read any other fault codes than the one my GAP tool was showing.

The guys there are a good bunch, really trustworthy and know their stuff. They work on a few FFRR apparently (along with other Landrover models, but wouldn't class them as specialists. They are called SJW, based in Market Harborough. I've used them for a number of years for all sorts, anything that I didn't need a specialist or dealer for.
