2011 4.4 TDV8.

Driving today down motorway to bristol and at end of motorway red triangle warning “dpf full - see dealer” pops up. Car has been 100%. Last yellow dpf warning was in May 2019 but went out after regen. Parked up and went about business. When I got back in no warnings. Then on driving home later in the day, red triangle warning reappears and then yellow engine light and restricted performance. Made it home (10 miles). Car doesn’t smoke at all and second turbo gets a good work out every so often (again no smoke)

Don’t understand why no prior warnings (yellow dpf triangle) at all. Car does a mix of urban day to day with a 10 mile 35 minute commute along dual carriageway and motorway.

Thinking it is prob EGT sensor or dpf sensor. Poss throttle body? Waiting. For my IID to arrive next week for faults.

Anyone any thoughts? I don’t believe it could fill up so fast without any warnings.

Ps anyone in bristol care to lend me an IID until mine arrives?

Donut hoses are common. Search you'll find loads.

Or another boost leak - i.e. pipework.

I wouldn't drive it. Plus the IID won't clear a RED DPF warning.
But you do need to check for any other errors.

As Greg said. Don’t drive it. Get it to a good independent specialist ASAP to read codes and work out what’s wrong with it. It’s usually not the DPF itself but other issues like Greg mentions.

Thanks guys. I have spent most of today reading all your excellent posts ( ) and have come to the conclusion that it is not being allowed to regen due to a sensor failure. Either EGT, or throttle body or some other?

It seems highly unusual to suddenly get a red pop up do you agree?

Will get a fault reading done ASAP then a smoke test on the hoses.

Will relay back my findings and thanks again all of you for your comprehensive info.

I guess it's possible.

With mine recently, aside of my usual fast-filling DPF due to London traffic, I had an issue which gave me restricted performance which then led quickly to a red DPF. A double cause of my restricted.

The IID faults codes kinda sent me around the houses until I found the culprit, a loose intake hose. Under boost, if these leak it will throw a restricted, sometimes without an error code and it will most times fill your DPF to red, effectively giving your two causes of restricted at once.

Air system leaks do cause the DPF to fill very fast.

So yes whilst your theory could be correct, don't underestimate the basics - which on the 4.4 are the donut hoses (or another intake hose leak e.g. in my case) Cheers, Greg

Oh also dolphin, again on the best-to-eliminimate-the-basics logic:

- it won't regen if fuel is 1/4 or below.
- driving speed & traffic - the ECU can be fickle so best to sit on 50 with the cruise on. no need for revs or low gears

These won't help now you're on red but if say on your last motorway/50mph run your fuel was low, might be a possible culprit. Especially in conjunction with say a hose leak.

I had a similar thing happen to me and after replacing the pipes at the back of the engine it wast sorted. When the engine started to regenerate the pipes stopped it and caused a rapid build up.

Fuel was nearly full and drive was over 50 mph and cruising for at least 15 mins.

Will post pics tonight.

Cam Craig too far away to risk driving there on reduced power (one hour and 30 miles away)

Interestingly there was a lot of debris/light coloured dust on top of the plenum when I removed the engine cover so it looks prob like a hose situation. Will investigate further tomorrow.

Right,IID arrived and this is the fault code.

right, got down underneath and checked the sensor codes cleared and no reappearance on start-up.

Live value shows 26.7g of soot so going to see if it will re-gen of its own accord on a motorway drive now.

If not then it's replace the sensor.
