3ltr Diesel vs 4.4 sdv8

Looking at an L405 and i am looking more toward a v6 diesel as opposed to the v8 4.4.

Anyone have any more insight as to real world mpg and reliability?

Would be good to hear from owners vs reviews

N.B the car i am looking at is a 2014 3 ltr diesel with 80k on the clock.

Thanks in advance! Range Rover SC 35th Anniversary 2006

Im getting between 29 and 40 mpg in a 2015 4.4. We have a new dual carriageway on my commute and the speed limit is 60 mph ( ish ) 80 kph and i get 42 mpg on that but drops to 40 mpg on the last 8 kilometers as it's a built up area. I've driven both the 3.0 and have a 4.4 and think the 3.0 is a great engine in the L405. My preference was for the 4.4. I had the 4.4 in my L322 and it was remapped which made it a much nicer / more responsive to drive and i will have the L405 remapped soon. Thumbs Up 2015 4.4 AB

I’m getting exactly the same fuel economy out of my SDV8 as I was out of my SDV6 Disco 4.

Genuine mpg figures, rather than the on board “lieometer”:

If you live somewhere that’s less hilly, without the narrow lanes, you’ll crack 30 mpg.

The SDV8 is a very different beast from the V6. It costs a bit more in fuel, but it has a very heavy grade cam chain in place of a belt and it doesn’t share the V6’s occasionally fragile crank. It corners flatter and has more powerful, 6 pot, brakes. The V6 is a little smoother though, but lacks the V8’s unstoppable bottom end grunt and has a bit of a flat spot that’s only really noticeable when pulling out of a junction in a hurry.

Don’t buy a V6 before you’ve driven them both. I stepped out of the V6 and into the ‘8 and knew it was for me before I’d even driven off the forecourt Thumbs Up

The v6 3.0L doesn’t have the active suspension (less lean in the corners)

A massive plus for the 3.0 is the weight over the front axle! When pressing on, the 4.4 tends to wash wide more than the 3.0 due to the extra weight... Another factor is the engine noise and vibration heard in the 4.4 is much more muted in the 3.0...👍

If it's an "Approved" car from a LR dealer, bear in mind that the "Approved" warranty will be cut, from 2 years to 1, for any cars sold after the end of August 2019 Shocked

I can only speak as I find; I have not had a V8 4.4 L405, in fact this is my first such car, though I've owned quite a few LR products previously, detailed below.
I bought this in February on the approved used scheme, it's a late '14 (64) 3.0 V6, which at the time had done 32,000 miles. Coming back to the Fattie from the two Disco's before it, I realised what I had been missing since my L322 5.0 SC!!
The ride is incredibly smooth, it just glides along. Very, very pleased with the MPG - Just done a return journey from Leicestershire to Gatwick Airport and back (with two weeks in between, four adults and rammed with luggage - 39.5mpg, cruising at 75 on M40 and crawling around the M25. Well worth a serious look with the 3.0 V6 my friend.

Do you mean why have they done it? Several possible reasons, but I have no idea which one it is Sad

I'm sure its because LR realise their cars are sooooo reliable that none-one ever needs the second year so it was pointless offering it.

.....orrrrr

maybe , just maybe its because the bill Car Care Plan were charging LR to cover used approved warranty was out of control because of the amount they are having to payout for LR's crap reliability????

just my thoughts. I'm sure it's the former. Shocked

Rolling with laughter

If my experience of my last ever visit the my nearest dealer, where they tried everything to flog me a used car, rather than the new one I was asking for, LR might want to disincentivise their dealers to switching to used at the earliest opportunity.
