United Kingdom 2009 Range Rover SE TDV8 Stornoway Grey

No, I still have the noise. It sounds like a rattlesnake at the moment.

I get a fault every few days. Restricted Perfomance. See my other posts on this subject 2010 MY Vogue SE TDV8 3.6 Stornoway Grey- fully loaded

I will have a look at your other posts , I blanked my egr valves the other day to try and eliminate the problems I’ve read a few posts on maps and mafs , split intercoolers etc , I had a discovery 3 before getting the Range Rover and a pair of 335d which use a pair of turbos also albeit a small one and a big one and I had numerous faults due to perished cracked vacuum lines ,boost hose leak and the pressure converters for each turbo , I am not clued up on the TDV8 set up yet but have downloaded a manual.

Whistle Solved hopefully

Took for a diagnostic appointment and landrover have diagnosed the right hand turbo to be leaking at intake , I’m presuming
That’s a pipe , hopefully the little short one I have from the silicone upgraded ones I have bought .!
I don’t think I will be taking them up on there quote though ! Bit steep 😂
Anyways I thought I would update and it may help someone out in the future , who has the same type of whistle but no restricted performance fault .thanks for all the help and tips and guidance very much appreciated

Experiencing a few issues in my 3rd day or Vogue L322 ownership 😂 suspension compresser issues and tail light which I have resolved myself with input and researching on this great site

However I’m not sure I can fix this one !
I have a whistle from about 1500rpm to 2500 which I can hear under acceleration

After some pointers ,could this be a boost leak and how can I check it (hope it is )
I’ve had a look at the 2 top intercooler hoses and also took the engine cover off
Looked at the 2 left and right short rubber pipes all seem fine , I’ve checked around the egr also , I can hear a faint whistle when the engine is revved in park , but I don’t get the full on whistle untill under load , would an exhaust gasket leak cause a whistle ,
I haven’t got any restricted performance messages or Eml lights or any smoke or smells of any kind if that helps with diagnoses and mpg seems very good almost too good ? very little on the site regarding whistle ! I’m praying that it isn’t turbos on there way out , any help would be greatly appreciated , garage I go to is great but a 2 week waiting list
Cheers Ian

Replaced turbos oil feed pipes and turbo intake pipe on drivers side
Turbo had rubber in it and had damaged the fins probably from the missing bits of rubber on turbo intake
Kind Regards
Ian

I replaced both and all the oil feed pipes on L322 , I think if you are paying a days labour to have the body removed on your sport , probably be as well doing both mate

Kind Regards
Ian

If the body is coming off, then it makes sense to have as much done as is sensible.

Turbos, and for a couple of hundred extra probably worth stuffing an alternator on there as well. Access is so much better that the labour time comes right down. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Would you share how much this cost please? I’m just trying to get an idea of worst case before I spend a small fortune on fully servicing mine. I have a whistle on acceleration too ☹️

Is the turbo whistle a guaranteed sign you are about to experience financial ruin?

Listening to the whistle in the videos, this is quite a distinct sound. Did the pipe replacement sort the issue? I'm surprised there wasn't any soot caused by that.

The body does not come off on an L322. The L322 is a monocoque chassis (like modern cars). What you can do though is drop the front sub-frame, with the engine attached. I don't know how long this takes though.

If anyone has a garage who tells them that the body needs to come off, I suggest going elsewhere because, they haven't the foggiest. The Range Rover Sport was based on the Discovery 3, which uses a traditional ladder frame chassis, which is why the body can be removed.

The off-side turbo can be reached by removing the wheel arch. It might take some fettling but, it is possible. The nearside turbo is much more difficult to get to. 2015 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 SDV8
