Hi all,

Got the car back from mechanic who has fitted a new AC compressor...now like the arctic in there!

‘Low Coolant’ warning is now showing on the dashboard, he can’t clear the message but the coolant is perfectly fine. No leaks and it’s not overheating etc. He did say they can be a pain to bleed and that it should work it’s way out, if it is an air lock.

It could simply be that the float switch in the header tank has got stuck, or
2) get them to check the SG of the coolant. If it is too weak a mixture this can give a false low level reading.

Could be the float stuck however the old wives tale of specific gravity of the coolant being low is never going to be the cause. The sensor is a magnetic reed switch that never comes into contact with the coolant. My experience with the earlier cars shows the exciter magnet, or whatever is within the float to switch the magnetic reed switch loses its power, the only reliable remedy is a new expansion tank if that is the problem 2007 TDV8 VSE

Mine is starting to do this

Light goes off once engine warm.
Is this a typical symptom of the sensor fail?

Replacing the air con compressor doesn't involve disturbing any of the cooling system.

The error is most likely as suggested, the sensor going duff (new expansion tanks with sensors included aren't expensive to purchase), or an air lock. There's a bleed procedure in the workshop manual in the Wiki, so you can rule out any air locks - it's very simple to do.
