Westminster Deployable Steps

Good morning all!

I am new to the forum and new to FF ownership having just acquired a very nice 62 plate Westminster... Loving the car massively at the moment, however I have a quick question, and although I have searched the forum I cannot find an answer...

Currently the RR does not have Deployable Side Steps fitted, however the button on the centre roof consol (by the sunroof) is there... is the button installed by default from the factory or is it installed as part of the steps? If its the latter is there an easy way of establishing whether the wiring loom etc is in place before I start ripping everything apart? I'm just wondering if a previous owner had them installed but removed them for whatever reason?

Thanks in advance
Brian

Hi Brian,

Fairly sure it wasn't factory fitted, though I've never owned a Westminster.

You could look under the car and see if the wiring loom appears for the motors.

This is the retro fitting guide from a member: -

the button is not a default fitment...i suspect that the steps were taken off for some reason...check underneath for loose plugs/wiring around the front and also there you can also see if step brackets were fitted in the past.. ... - .- -.

Welcome... To add to above, if you remove the trim panel next to your left knee (when in the drivers seat) that's where the ECU would live... Thumbs Up

As per Stan's reply, the switch was not fitted to my 62 plate Westie either.

Nope, the switch does not illuminate, not had a chance to pull any trim off yet, but suspect the good stuff has been taken out along with the steps themselves Crying or Very sad

I used to be in the workshop for a large family owned haulage firm and when it was time to return the top bosses 2008 L322 at the end of the lease he bought it into the workshop and asked me to remove the deployable steps and mud flaps as he had to pay for those so he wasn’t letting the lease company have them, I set about removing the entire kit including the loom but decided to leave the switch as I didn’t have a blank to put back in its place and didn’t want to leave a hole. The saddest part the steps were still in the same place in an electric cupboard in the workshop when I left in 2014 which is irritating as they look quite smart on my L322 and they prob ended up in a skip Big Cry L322 4.4 TDV8 Current
