I think you are very lucky if you are 21 and getting fully comp for £1100 as the main driver of a 4.4 RR! I bet if you mentioned Off=Road Use to Elephant they would have a stampede for the nearest get-out clause and your premium would double or treble!
Discount insurers run a mile if you mention off-road use, if you want to be covered to play in the mud/ off the road then you are going to have to go to a specialist broker (who might even give a discount for the trakker) like those listed in the specialist Land Rover mags. Of course you could risk it by not telling your insurer you intend to go into the mud, but you won't even have 3rd party cover in that case............ they just will not cover you 2018 Mini Countryman Cooper S E All4 PHEV in Melting Silver - it’s whisper quiet in EV and polluter modes

my experience ref off road use is what i've mentioned in my GC for sale thread

if its off road say hunting/shooting/fishing/horses etc you will pay no extra

but if you go to off road events then expect to pay a very hefty premium because insurers know you are going to push the car to its limits

a friend who regularly off roads a heavily modified LR has to have pay per day/event - the insurance companies have details of every 'proper' off road course and its level of difficulty/risk

hope this helps

At least when you run on LPG you can go and hug a treehugger Dan! I just heard on You and Yours that LPG cars are exempt from the London Indigestion Charge, but how do you prove that your car is fuelled by LPG, do they change the V5? 2018 Mini Countryman Cooper S E All4 PHEV in Melting Silver - it’s whisper quiet in EV and polluter modes

My dad has an LPG FFRR and pays 55p a litre, he was paying 140p for diesel before he bought his current one.

I love mine. I can't see what you mean about wafting about though- both cars are the same except for the engines, so ride comfort etc should be identical. I've only ever been in petrol versions at work and they feel the same to me ( taking engine noise out of the equation).

Diesels are noisier and there aren't any benefits to having one anymore, like there used to be years ago- diesel used to be a lot cheaper than petrol when I was a lad. Now, it's the other way round.
I plan on getting mine re-mapped to sharpen it up a bit, but as has been said already, they're not built for speed, they're a luxury motor at the top of the 4x4 Market. Often copied, never equalled! Jeremy Clarkson is on record as saying the dashboard is of the same quality as a Bentley.
Our motorway Rangies are all petrol V8s. The fuel bill is horrendous!

When I drive mine to and from work, it's like I'm still sitting in my comfy chair at home! 2010 MY Vogue SE TDV8 3.6 Stornoway Grey- fully loaded

It's all down to personal choice really, I dont even think you fall into one or other catagory anymore.

I have been delighted with my 4.4i Petrol V8 although I prefered the "tone" from my old 4.6 V8 P38 Very Happy

But the decision for most now is made all the more easier since the introduction of the TDV8 diesel engine Bow down but I dont think its a fair contest anymore Thumbs Up

Just to update this, both of the filling stations with LPG on my route to work are 85.9p/litre! Sad

I think my P38 had a JE exhaust system of some sort, it was stainless with 4 tailpipes and boy did it sound nice!
