Replacing/ADjusting Handbrake Shoes

I need to have a look at replacing/adjusting the handbrake shoes on my TD6. Question: if I leave the main gearbox in Neutral and raise just one rear wheel, is that wheel free to rotate? Or do I need to raise both rear wheels? If the latter is correct (and I think it might be ...), is there a suitable central jacking point for a trolley jack? (And yes,I've got some axle stands as well!)

Thanks!

When i did my tdv8 one wheel up in the air would spin freely. Not sure if that helps as its a later car but assume the same. Re rear jacking points if you have a tow bar and high lift jack under there is fine. Aternativel where the suspension meets the sub frame and then jack stands on jacking points either side. Current 2007 TDV8 Vogue Buckingham Blue

I can never understand why handbrake shoes ever need replaced on a car after all you only use them when the car is stopped. Cleaned up yes but replaced? How do they wear down?

@ nicedayforit - if the backing plate rusts and the pins holding the shoes in place fall out/tear out of the backing plate, the shoes will fall onto the inside of the drum. That is one sure way of needing new handbrake shoes 56 TDV8 Vogue SE

@ Andy_J - No, you need a new backplate, not new brake shoes !! Twisted Evil

However, if you fit a new brake disc, you would likely fit new disc brake pads, therefore it may follow you would fit new shoes as well..... .

@ joe90 - unless you are lucky and notice the problem straight away, then the shoes rum on the bottom of the disc centre (drum) and overheat so when you go to fit a new back plate the shoes are shot. Thumbs Up

If you are really unlucky the pins end up getting dragged into the shoes and gouge them out along with the disc/drum and you need to fix the whole lot 56 TDV8 Vogue SE
