4.4 TDV8 Remap....

Just browsing Facebook and the below popped up.

I though the standard tune limited torque as it’s the max the gearbox is rated for?

So the remap might not do it much good?

If there’s one thing it doesn’t lack is pulling power. Think I’d like to have a drive of a remapped one, but wouldn’t do it to mine....

Alive Tuning did my TD5 Disco 2 back in about 2007 when Gary was still working from his house.

JE Engineering did my TD6.

I'd add Gareth Ell of Empire Tuning to that list. He's ex J E Engineering and he knows his stuff.

We have an awesome mapper who really knows his stuff! The only mapper ive met who can get the best from a 3.6 WITHOUT smoke!

He's also really quite good with the 4.4 too... Thumbs Up The 4.4 can feel really quite laggy with plenty of dead spots... Rolling Eyes

Echo this Thumbs Up

The gearbox is already at its torque input limit. A PROPER remap will take this into account, and not put any extra torque through the box, but will give a much more even spread of torque throughout the rev range

Pub/FB figures are all well and good, but not when its your own 6k gearbox on the line Wink

I had my 4.4 tdv8 remapped and did about 120k with it and no issues , just speaking from my own experience and not encouraging or discouraging anyone else. The torque was upped by about 15% and power by the same. I sold it with 252000k kilometres on it and it just hit 290000 with no obvious problems. The same mapper ( not any of the ones mentioned here) has done 3 other 4.4 tdv8s and 1 sdv8 so far without recorded incident.

The map made it more responsive and removed the initial lag from roundabouts, junctions etc where mine felt a disconnect between my foot on the accelerator and the RR moving , it was only a split second but it was annoying. My SDV8 will be getting the remap once I get around to it ( I've been saying that for a year now) but doesn't suffer from the same issue, I'm getting the remap because I want to.

Again , just my experience Thumbs Up 2015 4.4 AB

On the 4.4 in my view you should ask why? If for example it gives you a 15% increase in power, how often did you run flat out before? It maybe just me getting old and cranky but rarely did I use full throttle and therefore there would be nothing to be gained from a re-map. They don't improve MPG that's for sure, they often make the display wildly optimistic by increasing the fuel rail pressure. For me, I wouldnt bother. BMW i3 Electric Car

This is where I'd like an improvement but for my very short test with the EGR pipe blanked the delay was gone, with immediate throttle response presumably due to more oxygen, suggesting that just disabling EGR might be sufficient. However I couldn't leave the plate fitted because the engine braked quite savagely on the slightest reduction in throttle, possibly due to the EGR butterfly being closed to increase EGR which was blocked. Since the recent PCM update to the latest level the off-the-mark response on light throttle is a little better but is still less than desirable although a wider initial throttle seems more responsive without being too excessive.

Well, with all the speed cameras and such everywhere nowadays, the "between roundabouts" grand prix maybe our last fun element of driving left Whistle Whistle Whistle Rolling Eyes
