Rust on RHR wheel arch

Anybody had this problem? My 15 year old TD6 has rust coming through at the bottom of the wheel arch; only visible when you open the door. Iā€™m thinking standard treatment - rub down, Kurust, primer and paint - unless anyone has any other suggestions? Been a long time since I had a motor with rusty bodywork. L322 TDV8 4.4 - current

Probably lots of rust under the plastic. I had holes in both sills.
Also check passenger side between rear bumper and fender/wheel arc. Mine was rusting through from the inside. 2007 L322 3.6 TDV8 Stornoway

Seems like this is rusting from outside - in? Is it caused by dirt stuck between plastic and metal?
And obviously nobody makes replacement sills. 2007 L322 3.6 TDV8 Stornoway

Oops, Sorry!

I've not been on the forum for a while, and just posted a very similar post in the tech section. Seems I was a lot luckier than a lot of people. It has to be sorted early was my message and we have to stay on top. It's a sin that such a highly thought of (and bloody expensive) vehicle has such a vulnerability. Good luck with getting it sorted.

They come off easily yes. Pull out the centre pins under the bottom of the plastic sills. Remove the nuts from the mud flaps if fitted the open the rear door and prise the plastic from the metal sill and then do the same with the front door open. Current 2007 TDV8 Vogue Buckingham Blue

Having seen some of the above examples of corroded sills, bit the bullet today and took the sill covers off my 2004 TD6.
Got a bit of a shock, the sills are almost as new, the only corrosion was a minute bit on the surface around the rear clip positions and a small amount of surface corrosion on the rear flanges of the sills, both sides exactly the same.
The sills are absolutely solid.
The small amount of corrosion around the rear clip positions was almost certainly due to a build up of soil in the small pocket on the rear of the sill covers given the amount of soil I removed from each.
Gave the sills a wipe down, applied a liberal coat of grease to them and refitted the covers for another 15 years.
I really was expecting the worst and can't understand why some cars suffer really badly from corrosion behind these covers and some seem to be ok.
Another reason not to sell the car for a while, I do like to get my monies worth. Thumbs Up
