United Kingdom 2006 Range Rover Vogue SE Supercharged Java Black

My guess is that the distance between the front and rear wheels changes a little depending on the vehicle height, so lowering with your foot on the break will cause additional stress to the tyres, suspension and 4WD bits. I try to drop into access mode with the car in neutral and the hand brake off.

had a look in my manual and can find no reference?

but i did read that you should only select access height when the vehicle is moving!!!

i've selected it when stationary and in park Sad

any damage done????

thats what it says in the manual nick, but it can be done in extreme circumstances, then neutral is selected and the handbrake is on and you might hear noises and feel vibrations.

thanks Stan but numbnuts here has been doing it as a matter of course when stationary and in Park Sad

must have misread that part of the user manual

assuming as its not written in BIG BLOCK LETTERS i've done no damage - i did hear groaning a few times!

DOH, me too, for the last 5 years, on 3 cars! Gerry

manual says 'handbrake on'

actually, to avoid confusion - from the manual

'access mode should only be selected whilst the vehicle is moving. In extreme circumstances, if it is necessary to select access height whilst the vehicle is stationary, 'N' (neutral) should be selected and the handbrake applied. Note that some noise from the suspension may be heard, accompanied by vibrations'

On RRS TDv8 and S/C's it was also that that triggered the very trick dislocation of the rear antiroll bars so that the rear wheels would extend until they found the ground or ran out of extension (IIRC they could get another 5cm of extension beyond the super-extended mode on one rear wheel too!) I don't know if the S/C and 4.4TDv8 can do this as they also have a similar DR system to the TDv8 and S/C RRS's 2018 Mini Countryman Cooper S E All4 PHEV in Melting Silver - it’s whisper quiet in EV and polluter modes

Presumably that’s to stop you rolling away.

Following washing the inner wheel arches, I once lowered the car from off road height straight to access height with my foot planted heavily on the brake pedal, the suspension groaned a little, but when I took my foot off the car dropped like it had been dropped from a crane (albeit only about 2 inches) . When I got out the car I discovered the rear suspension was much lower than normal access height.

I assumed this was because the suspension stuck at a particular height due to the brakes being applied, so more air was released than normal.

I’ve not tried to reproduce this as I don’t want to break anything.

Who's going to be the first to upload a photo or their FFRR at extended height then?

Extended height Cool

Sadly I did not manage to get it to super extended mode, none the less, it looks like a monster truck.

Being a complete numbnuts here as well. I assume the access mode being discussed is via the long button the drivers door forward of the window switches.

I usually press this when I get home and stopped/in park so the wife can get out without jumping/or falling. (she's not that tall Laughing ). If so, then I'm also doing it wrong.! Ash
