New noise in park, neutral only plus one more question!!

Hiya folks just another day in the life of a l322 owner, as the title mine has developed a spinning/ metallic type noise not often but only in park or neutral, drives and pulls like it should.
My thoughts are possibly oil not getting circulated properly but it's just an uneducated shot in the dark .

I have tried reset through the hidden menu and also battery disconnect/ touching as I have another issue, I turn the key through 1 and as it gets to position two the car starts not allowing the glow plugs to heat normally , so it's not getting as far as postition 3 against the spring, starts every time but of course it's not right.??

Are these issues related?
Thanks in advanced people.

Update.....
Whilst ideling on my drive my RR has died, quite a large pop sounds and then whispers of smoke, now turning the key lights up the dash, deploys the steering column but does not start the car, just a single click sound.

Just another thought..is it possible a dodgy starter motor would effect the ignition sequence? Likely the starter motor has died....sorry I'm lost so any assistance would be great.

I'm not sure it was coming up when lifted the bonnet.around the rear of the block is all I can narrow it down. Possibly starter motor....is that possible?

Im far from an expert but smoke could be a burnt cable more thannthe starter motor. Hopefully one of the experts on here will chime in shortly. Thumbs Up 2015 4.4 AB

It sounds to me like your starter motor has possibly got stuck engaged, and has burnt itself out, or the contacts on the solenoid.

Do a web search and you should find some pictures of the engine out of the car to give you a clue where to check.

This should get you started (no pun intended Wink )

I was wondering if it could be your alternator. They have a habit on Discos of burning out and taking the battery with them when they go.

A year and model of car would be helpful.

Right thanks everyone I have something to work with, at the weekend my first thing will be to remove and test the starter motor (just wishing my arms were another two foot longer...looks a pig)

There is a good write up on here by mercs600 if anyone else needs it

Steptoe my car details are under my name just hover over the icon,

Mike my battery is reading 11.6 a little low, would that rule out alternator?

Any other thoughts please add them, thanks again, I am trying not to have go through the garage, transporting money pit route just yet.

Cheap and easy to charge the battery - should really be over 12V, ideally 12.3V+ with engine off and car asleep. See if charging it makes any difference.

With engine running it should be higher if the alternator is okay - typically around 14V I think. You'll find some detailed figures on here if you search for battery / alternator. 2016 Skoda Octavia VRS Estate

@ Kds2 looks about right on the switch also.

The electronic parts look like they can be cleaned and saved in the picture but the plastic spindle is scrap, anyone know if it can be bought seperate?
