Portugal 2002 Range Rover Vogue Td6 Zambezi Silver
Front suspension

Some weeks ago, I've replaced all the suspension control arms due to bad bushes. It where much easier to replace the complete arms than the bushes. I've tightened with the specified torque.
Now the front suspension is a bit lower than the specified on RAVE.
Workshop manual specifies front measure from the hub center to the wheel arch 493 +-2mm. Mine is with 470+-.

There is a special way to tighten the control arms or must I raise a bit the front to achieve the correct measure and then tighten?

Believe they should be torqued when wheel is on the ground or when suspension is aligned with the road going position.

What was your suspension height before you changed the control arms ? .

Hi Joe

Don't know. I didn't measure. It was the first time that I have replace control arms in a car.
I own LR's for 30 years. The last time that I've changed something in a suspension, was on my Disco 200 Tdi the radius arms bushes. On my Disco TD5 only the rear air bags.
After all this, now I have a knocking on the right side. When on a bumpy road it sounds. I suppose that is the hub bearing. I have read also that can be the suspension strut which inner buches and shims gone off.

Do you know the size of the socket to remove the hub nut or that is a special tool? That nut is a strange one just looking at,

I have just replaced every joint and bush on the front of mine you need to slacken the main bush bolts off lower the car so the weight is on the front wheels then tighten the bush bolts.

I drive up on to a couple of railway sleepers to give me the height required as some of the bolts are pretty tight and need a decent length of torque wrench
