didnt know that

here's an edited post nicked from the rr.net forum..bloke got stuck in snow and was querying an extended height he had encountered..

You probably bottomed out after digging deep enough into that mud, the car sensed it and automatically raised itself to extended height, which is about 1.5" higher than regular off-road mode, to try and clear the obstacle. Once there, you could then invoke "super-extended" mode manually to give you a little - about 1" - extra clearance still, if necessary, by holding the suspensions UP button for about 3 seconds while pushing the brake pedal, until you hear the chime and see a confirmation message in the instrument cluster (you may have done so involuntarily.) That's as high as the suspensions will get, and indeed the car does look like it's on stilts. It will exit extended or super-extended mode automatically if you accelerate over 3/4 mph for at least 30 seconds, or you can return to regular off-road height by hitting the DOWN suspensions button.

You can simulate grounding by strategically (and carefully!) positioning a jack stand or similar object under the car in regular or off-road height and then, with the engine running and all door closed, lowering your suspensions to access height. The car will sense the obstruction as it lowers, and immediately raise the suspensions to extended mode to attempt clearing it. Works like a charm, and many owners of newer Land Rovers carry a jack stand with them when wheeling, specifically for that reason before negotiating sections of a trail that may require the extra clearance... You can't manually select extended height otherwise, the electronics must invoke it when they sense grounding. It's all explained in the often-overlooked Owner's Manual, air suspensions chapter...

I have heard of this on RR.net in the past, I've never been able to find any info on it though.

It is not in the WSM or the Owners manual for 2002-2004, can you confirm it's in your 2005 scarey? Or anyone else with their manual to hand?

Yes I have experienced it in both the RRS's and this FFRR - super-extended offroad height. It is normally triggered automatically but you can also force the car to go into it without a jack under the car. If you look on RRSport and also IIRC JMC has posted about how to do it here as well. Also search on Disco3.

Of course you can select access height when moving, just not above 15mph IIRC, I select it every time I'm driving into my drive so the car is lowered by the time I have stopped. 2018 Mini Countryman Cooper S E All4 PHEV in Melting Silver - it’s whisper quiet in EV and polluter modes

I wonder what year this comes in?

The EAS was re-designed in 2007/2008? When they dropped the "motorway mode" from the EAS, I'd bet this is when this change was introduced.

The Classic and P38 both did the same, it was a shame to see it dropped on the L322. Although I do like the cross-link valves.

thats what it says in the manual nick, but it can be done in extreme circumstances, then neutral is selected and the handbrake is on and you might hear noises and feel vibrations. ... - .- -.

I have lowered to access in N and P/ stopped on my drive and it does make some noises from the tyres, possibly being stopped and lowering/raising puts some additional stress on the suspension? 2018 Mini Countryman Cooper S E All4 PHEV in Melting Silver - it’s whisper quiet in EV and polluter modes
