Ok..next step for me is binning that god awful jack that's next to the compressor...just checking these are the right parts? Once here does the mini adaptor need drilled into said jack?

Parts are right. Just need to drill a 16mm hole in the bottom of the adapter so that it fits over the jack. Not right through!!

You remove the "cow horns" from the jack by pushing out the retaining pin. Some drill the side of the adapter to fasten it on to the drill but it isn't necessary as the weight will keep it in place. It also has the advantage that, if you have a trolley jack, you can use the pad on it. John

You would be better with a metal version of the adapter - they do exist but harder to find.

That one is a tough rubber, so OK as a lifting pad, but not as good with a hole drilled through the middle of it

Alternatively, you can take a grinder to the jack itself - there's some ideas on this thread

Just bent the galvanised nail slightly to make it a tight push fit.

My sprinter jack is due any day so will also be buying an adaptor.

The metal one is aluminium so easy to drill. The most difficult part will be ensuring it is at right angles. Don't you have a friendly garage nearby or someone with a pillar drill? John

A simple Heath Robinson mod that works OK if you can't drill the 16mm hole.

Find a plastic bottle top that is just over 16mm diameter.
Use a self tapping screw to connect it to your rubber pad, such that it just pushes over the 16mm piston
The plastic threads inside the cap just grip the piston sufficient to hold it firm.

The problem with that is that, under load, you are depending on a self tapper into rubber to remain stable if there is any lateral force when jacking the vehicle. I wouldn't be happy.  John

The adapter mod adds a further 15mm to the overall height, but it fits in easy with the suspension raised, and then easily lifts the car sufficient to get the flat off and the new wheel on. G reg 2.5VM Vogue Portofino red 1991- 1999
