Bong - suspension fault, max 30mph, drops to access (or lower), riding like a go-kart. IID to the rescue - left rear height sensor. Reset faults, all back to normal. Once home, check around but nothing obvious. Good spray of WD40 in the area of the height sensor as my default first line of defence. 5 mile drive, no issues.
Recommendations? Get the height sensor changed asap? Assume a temporary glitch and carry on regardless? Any basic checks i should make?

Play around with it for a few minutes, keep changing the height, off road / drive /access several times, check that the connection plug is clean and tight, then if no physical damage is evident leave it to see what happens.

These cars like to 'Bong' now and then. It's as if a comedic LR designer thought let's have a cheap system to keep the driver alert at all times, 'ah, let's just bong them to keep them awake'

Ignore it, as said they like to bong every now and again, just to make you look under them! Makes em feel wanted.

Yes, these Fatties like to throw out random BONGs, it's the only way to keep you alert and nervous.

A few winters ago I was driving my old TD6 to work and went to overtake a lorry as was getting a lot of dirty spray onto my windscreen from the lorry's tyres and was getting sick of having to wash my windscreen. Got halfway past the lorry, with some spirited acceleration as the road was fairly busy, when I heard a dreaded BONG. Nearly myself, stamped on the brakes to slow down and pulled back in behind the lorry. I decided to look at the dash to see what dreaded fault had been thrown up...'could it be something wallet busting ?...I thought. Needless to say I was gobsmacked when I saw the 'Fault' message...

LOW WASHER FLUID

What the I screamed at the dash, that's just NOT funny! I must have caused the remaining fluid in the washer bottle to slosh as I accelerated, causing the level sensor to trip.

I just wish that these Fatties had different sounds for the various faults, not just a monotone BONG!

Yes I know that feeling, my TDV8 does that and three other regular 'the wheels and suspension and off-roading capacity are gone and air bags are about to explode' (3-codes in all) nearly every time I/we use the beastie, after about 10-20-minutes usually. Re-sets once switched off and on again. Three outlets including two LR/RR '''specialists''' (I wish I knew exactly what they are specialists at?) have taken money from me for 'getting to the heart of the problem' and none have stopped the BONGS (alerts) from on-going... Been doing so for two years now. Almost have gotten used to it. I think there's another speeding sensor that clicks in occasionally, which sets the fear off sometimes. Drat...

It’s all the terrifying warnings you get when the fuel level gets a bit low that make me jump out of my skin.

It’s all or nothing with Land Rover, the defender makes a quiet bong once when the fuel gets low, otherwise it doesn’t warn you about anything, you could drive away with all the doors open, no seatbelts on, the handbrake on, the suspension on the bump stops and it still wouldn’t bother to bong at you!

Have to get the misses to switch her phone off in the fatty as it makes heart stopping sounds similar to the dreaded bongs every half an hour or so - and I go into 'Who Dares Wins' mode every time... scratching around for the balaclava and a plastic crap bag...
