Could it be something as simple as the camera lens needing a good clean..... Question

I have found, in general, that they are not very good.

yep
i've sent them an email but i know what they will say
"it's part of the character of owning a range rover"
just thought i'd try and get feedback to see if this is normal or i have a faulty camera

hi the early ones were cmos and are not that great low res under 300 lines, then they went to ccd (charge coupled device) this gives a far better picture 420 lines and now on the 2010 its 520 and above giving you a very good picture with the option to zoom and still keep a good picture but before you rush on to ebay the later cameras will not work as they have 4 pins and signal opposed to the old ones having 2 pins and the signal V8 facelift Range Rover Autobiography 22" wheels.

Is there a cheaper alternative to paying GBP400 for a new reverse camera from LR that isn't that good in the first place?

If its not possible to use other camera brands, can we buy direct from Connaught Electronics Limited (CEL), the makers of the FFRR reverse camera? '01 1.8i Freelander. Grey/ grey

@ iancollins , sometimes it works other times it won't , and sometimes when it works its distorted and the picture is hazy and grainy like a bad reception .........

and mine, intermittent, have had a good look all round. Goes in for a service next fri, have asked them to look at it. It seems to me to be a loose/faulty connection somewhere. Just when i give up hope it sparks back into life. If it is working when i next use the beast it then fails......

managed to solve my reverse camera woes today without having to pay 400pounds to LR!

Went to a car accessory shop here in Malaysia. There was an array of cameras to choose from - ranging from 30 GBP to 200 GBP. What was great was there is no need to install an extra reverse cam screen. The image comes through to FFRR front touch screen!

Fitting took an hour the old faulty camera had to be removed from the original plastic casing to be replaced by the new unit. Plug and play! now I can SEE where I am reversing into now!

I opted for the expensive model as it captures a super-Wide image as well as has infra-red capability. Made in Korea, comes with a 2 year warranty! I will post some pics when I have more time. '01 1.8i Freelander. Grey/ grey
