Still can't see the towbar for hitching up, no matter how good the picture. Only Land Rover could design something as badly as that

for that they make the venture cam
still stupid to mount the venture cam to hitch up a trailer..

Had intermittent reverse camera issues, especially when exterior temp over 30C. stealer replaced the camera and wiring loom, intermittent issue gone, plus the image is very much better than before. Could this be the issue?

slightly off topic, i have a 2005 hse with the touch screen but without the reverse camera ,does anyone think that a camera and loom plugged into the 'boxes' at the back would work.. ... - .- -.

I would love to see my towball (sad git, i know!).

Ok.. just happens I've pulled all mine off. Basically on my '03 I had to get a AV cable to plug in to the TV module - you remove the white plug from the tv module - plug it in to the new cable and plug the new cables white plug in to the tv module. The new cable has loads of AV phonos to plug various stuff into.

Next you need to go to the rear wheel spare well... as you are stood looking in down on the right of the spare wheel nearest the rear of the car you will see a group of wires. From here I took a splice for the reverse lights and also a 12v feed.

Insert a relay here so when you select reverse its wired such that a ground feed (negative signal) is sent to the blue plug on the tv unit - pin number 17. You can also wire the relay so it also feeds 12+ to the reverse camera at the same time.. so the camera is only on when you need it.

Now if you buy your own av adapter cable you may need to swap one pair of pins about so you have an input for the reverse camera. No all the AV adapter cables have the reverse cam input, but its a painless exercise to swap the pins over as long as you have the wiring diagram.

Next is the issue of the camera. If I recall correctly it needs to be a NTSC format camera rather than PAL but do double check - there is a post on rangerover.net forum (I contributed to it) which will clear this up. Oddly the TV units AV input will accept PAL but the reverse cam input only accepts NTSC. (Though if you buy navcoder and a resler interface then you can select either format).

So with all the above wiring sorted you need to mount your reverse camera. I fitted mine by making a neat bracket from ally plate.. large hole in it to take the camera (no more than £15 of eblag).. masked off and sprayed mat black. 1 hole drilled in the lower bumper just off centre of the towbar and a 10mm (head) bolt through (6mm wide thread I think so a 7mm hole). Mount the camera bracket with the 1 bolt. Feed the wires up behind the bumper and cable tie at the hinges.. protect the wire by sliding some fish tak air hose over to stop any pinching. Slice the air hose along its length to allow the air hose to be clipped over the wire). None of the wiring is visible when installed unless you go digging.

Now if all is well, you select reverse... on come your lights triggering the relay which switches your screen to rear cam and the cam powers up. Sorted!

A search either here or on rangerover.net will find the finer details for wires you need to intercept and pin layouts for the plugs.

I posted a complete list and a wiring diagram or 2 (which should be copied and hosted at some location that we have control over if it's going in the wiki) in another thread a week or so ago. Prerequisite is a TV-module. These are available in analog form for next to nothing these days, tho, as everyone is switching to digital:


You either buy a kit with the cam/relay/harness for around GBP150 or you buy an NTSC cam on ebay for GBP25 and a relay from an auto parts store for GBP5 and make your harness. This cam works very well in a RR, BTW, although you do have to file a little metal inside the number-plate light slot .



The cam is wired into the TV module:
