also have you checked the oil pan for plastic bits ? sounds like metal on metal can could be worse case timing guides where the chains starts hitting metal.. 2003 Range Rover 4.4 Litre V8 - Adriatic blue

Not checked yet hoping it’s not and sounds different to the other vids I’ve heard of bad guides the noise is coming from close to the water pump going to check it for wobble first as it could be that? Current stable:

this video was when i caught my timing chain issue early. one guide had failed and others were falling apart.

Great I shall have a listen - I should add that the same day it started the coolant warning came on and I was a fair bit of fluid down so hoping it’s pointing that way! Current stable:

Yea me too how many miles had you done before the guides went? Had you ever changed your external tensioner? When I got mine the chain sounded really sloppy so I did the external tensioner and it sounded tight again I wonder if this sometimes gets overlooked and the sloppyness causes the guides to smash apart. Seem to be a mix of

the guides went around 90k Miles which is very low.. but was told its more to do with the age of the plastic inside the engine mine car was around 13years old at point the guide faile and the car has had excellent service history. and very well looked after in my owner ship ( http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic39687.html )

that water pump is on its way out as it should not move like that hopefully that will fix your noise 2003 Range Rover 4.4 Litre V8 - Adriatic blue
