Not checked yet hoping it’s not and sounds different to the other vids I’ve heard of bad guides the noise is coming from close to the water pump going to check it for wobble first as it could be that? Current stable:

Great I shall have a listen - I should add that the same day it started the coolant warning came on and I was a fair bit of fluid down so hoping it’s pointing that way! Current stable:

Yea me too how many miles had you done before the guides went? Had you ever changed your external tensioner? When I got mine the chain sounded really sloppy so I did the external tensioner and it sounded tight again I wonder if this sometimes gets overlooked and the sloppyness causes the guides to smash apart. Seem to be a mix of

the guides went around 90k Miles which is very low.. but was told its more to do with the age of the plastic inside the engine mine car was around 13years old at point the guide faile and the car has had excellent service history. and very well looked after in my owner ship ( http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic39687.html )

I believe you are correct the old chain tensionor spring was very soft and could have been this aswell and well it could have certainty been one of the issues when chain slapping about and hitting the hardened plastic. i feel i was just unlucky.. 2003 Range Rover 4.4 Litre V8 - Adriatic blue

So I’m impatient

I wobble the viscous fan belt on and watch the pulley - guessing it shouldn’t move like that - bad pump?

Here’s the best noise but it from in front of grill so bad pic

On a side note your video that was the chain guides I have heard that I can’t remember if it was this Range Rover before the tensioner or my e39 m5 I think the m5 and I just lived with it it never got worse though strange Current stable:

Yep that pump is goosed.

Hope you have better luck than me with the waterpump. I fitted a good OEM unit only to have it spring a leak from a dodgy casting two weeks after fitting. No7 - 2003 V8 Vogue
