EDIT: Wow- just looked back at the dates and noticed you started this thread in Feb. Joe, don't be foolish. Have it looked at before you end up needing to spring for a gearbox. Do you run around for months on end with decaying teeth in your mouth so you can get dentures rather than fillings? Shocked

Yep, policy of neglect (both for car and teeth (rest of body for that matter Wink))

Just not had time to stop last couple of months, but work/life balance is improving now Smile .

I use neutral a lot when waiting at lights etc. Hope this doesn't cause any problems. Similar to what Stan said when left on drive you can hear the engine pushing. FFRR TD6 HSE

pretty sure you get more vibes with the td6 than the petrol..must be the tractor engine causing it.

it says in the manual, when sat for a prolonged period of time (traffic lights) you should put the gearbox in neutral - makes sense as you are holding the car in place with your brake while the engine and torque converter are trying to move the gearbox/wheels

I can now mark this is solved / resolved, following visit to main dealer.

They:

1. removed and replaced the Selector Lever (p/n UCD000010) (£Cool on the gearbox as the lever was seized

2. removed and replaced the Lever Spindle (p/n LR007570) (£Cool

3. corrected and unbent the gearshift cable

That cost £140 most of it labour, but a darn sight cheaper than gearbox out and replace park pin I guess.

nb the "complimentary" Vehicle Health Check found no problems other than the rear tyres are wearing faster than the fronts (1mm more in a year) .

Have you lubricated the Gear Selector Mechanism under the car next to the Gearbox as set out in another thread on here (by me plus I put in WIKI). If your Mechanism is corroded/Sticky it may not be fulling moving the gearbox into park and therefore leaving you halfway between gears....

Get under the car and unleash masses of WD40 or 3-in-one on the mechanism. If it works then get a new one at the local Indy its a very cheap replacement!

JUST SEEN YOU LATEST REPLY.

I was right it was the selector mechanism as it so often is with so many Gearbox problems Thumbs Up

Its in the WIKI: http://www.fullfatrr.com/wiki/TDV8_Gearbox...s_of_drive

A good thing is that I have now got into the habit of going to neutral then handbrake when I stop at lights etc, instead of just flinging it into PARK. Even doing it on my other autos. Recommend the same to others if not already doing so.

The gearshift is as light as a feather now, almost disconcerting so Rolling Eyes .

Also just to report that this repair has or appears to have resolved my intermittent "TRANS FAILSAFE PROG" message I was getting, coupled with fluttering in and out of gear, whilst driving along. (Not related to my getting stuck on Low Range problem)

Me thinks it may have been causing the inhibitor switch to "not quite" make proper contact every now and then (well @ every 20 seconds!) and therefore the ECU kept trying to drop me out of gear, and then fixing itself.

So Gary's fix is a good one, add lubricating this part to your service schedule.

A big thanks also to RRPhil for fault finding support

Laughing .
