Electrical faults with L322 (Head Unit and Sound, Locking)

We have a 2005/6 4.2 Supercharged full fat range rover.

There are a few electrical issues at the moment.

The radio crackles a lot and cuts in and out, the head unit switches on and off randomly.

It seems like a bad earth or something?

We suffered the dreaded water ingress at the rear which I traced to a worn out boot seal and the fact the tailgate was not latching all that tight.

Water was coming in on the rear nearside pillar.

Not great as it filled up the wheel well a bit and the water was running into the stack of controllers etc.

I replaced the boot seal and adjusted the tailgate catches which were loose. Dried the boot out and that now seems to be water leak solved.

It has the Harmon Kardon system with Nav and rear screens etc.

I have pulled out some of the connectors and cleaned them, not visibly corroded, but the whole lot needs to come out.

However, are there any know issues with the head unit and or HK amplifier etc etc

The central locking also seems now not to work, key has always worked before and the red led lights up.

The battery also goes flat after about 1 week stood up. It's had several new batteries over the past year or so.

I removed a defunct GPS tracker (flat internal tracker battery?) which I thought would solve this and stop any residual current draw, but alas it has not.

Any pointers or advice would be much appreciated.

ive had the same random stereo issue with my 03 td6 , switches itself off after 20 mins then sometimes goes for 2 hours plus without any bother , buy a clamp meter pal , not dear these days , it will help you find the battery drain easily enough

I might do that.

The water ingress is a common issue yes?

I searched and at some stage the phone module was mentioned...

It's hard to get access to all of the controllers without unbolting them, it's on my list to do, but I wondered if people had had the same symptoms pof crackly sound system and intermittent cut out of the touch screen display....

Loving that user name. I had an 82 urquattro for about 10 yrs & loved it. Only sold it because we decided to move to France but I seriously wish I still had it. Good luck with the water ingress.

Hi you say you have intermittent loss of power to head unit I had exact same issue it turned out to be a faulty nav on the move module fitted I removed this after 6 months of investigation and checking every module in the rear compartment also.

No not the Sat Nav unit I had a nav on the move module fitted you will know if you have one fitted because you can watch tv or dvds on the headunit when driving. If so disconnect it this could be faulty. Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 SDV8 SVO Stying Pack
