Wont start even after changing the ignition switch

Hi folks,

I drove the RR on Wednesday and it was fine. Parked up and went out in the evening but it wont turn over.. just the radio, interior light and background on the instrument panel (no clocks which you get when you press the button)

I did a search on the forum and alot suggested on a failed ignition switch. Mine had a crack so though it is time to change it. Got a replacement one from the local dealers today but still nothing..

Alot of the threads on the forum suggest key (mine is a stop start button) so Im scratching my head..

Any ideas what else I need to check. Battery is new and started fine on Wednesday Current:

on cold days recently when i press the start button i got a click but no start, second press would start...i did get all dash lights come up though .. i've put it down to either low battery voltage or the FF stopping me from starting until the glowplugs warmed up..

yours has a new battery so it could have been a glowplug warm up or the connections might need checking... ... - .- -.

Cheers Stan.. I was the same.. but the thing is.. it doesnt even get to that stage.. normally you would press the button and clocks come on with the cold start message when the glow plugs come on.

Its as if the transmission was on Drive.. kind of hard to describe.. its like its not going to the ON position. Current:

Another fix with a “battery reset”..... Rolling Eyes at least you are mobile again.

Tantermount to taking he battery out of your laptop when it stops responding.... There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Stan if you're getting the screen etc coming on and then a click when you press the starter button it might be a sign that the starter motor is failing - that is what happened to mine. New starter motor fitted and has been fine since. Only Range Rovers since 1988

I agree with Stan.. I have had weird stuff happening to it when the weather has been below zero.. when the temperature is in double figures its all fine..

In all this, I now have a new uncracked start button... lol

Any idea how much are the batteries? What should I get? Genuine or afyermarket.. what crank power and what model i.e.501 etc Current:

There are quite a few threads regarding batteries with many opinions, i replaced mine recently with a 160 stg one ( battery not opinion), slightly up on CCA and ah compared to standard but others ( more experienced ) swear by LR branded ones. I had a ' cheaper ' one in my 2007 for almost two years with no issues. 2015 4.4 AB

With mine the non-starting was not temperature-related, so perhaps yours are different. The technician did say that starter motor problems seemed more prevalent in cold weather and his theory was that there was some connection with the delay while the glow plugs warmed the fuel. The problem seemed linked to overheating of the starter motor, might it get warmer during the delay until the glow plugs have done the necessary? Only Range Rovers since 1988

I would get a second opinion mate.. cant think of any scenario where the sgarter motor would heat up as there is no load until after the glow plugs warm up. Current:
