@Vanquishspirit: Have you ever tried a TDV6? If you have, how did it compare?

Not an L405 owner, maybe one day.
However there was post recently about cold weather performance. Delay in delivery and low down pick up.
It was to do with the auto settings on terrain response. Choosing a setting rather than auto fixed it!
Hopefully helps?

A second and a half delay waiting for anything to happen is way too long. Mine is nothing like that in fact it spools up pretty quickly but on balance and entirely subjectively I’d say the tdv6 gets off the line slightly quicker until the SDV8 rolls up its sleeves and moves along briskly.

Have you tried driving in sport? 2016 SDV8 Autobiography
And several others previously.

That’s exactly the opposite of what I found, which is really odd. One of the main reasons that I went for the SDV8 over the TDV6 was for the more instant pick up Confused

My SDV8 is "almost" instant at getting going, I chose it over the TDV6 because the three TDV6's that I test drove all hesitated far too long, especially when travelling at 40 - 50 and accelerating to overtake. I have no patience for that and I'm far from a fast driver. They reminded me of my RRS TDV8, a great car but it needed winding up then it would fly.

Just to be clear. What I’m talking about is the initial off the line. The waiting to join a busy junction scenario. I’m absolutely not suggesting when it’s rolling along a5 40 or 50mph. 2016 SDV8 Autobiography

It’s exactly there, when pulling out of a junction from stationary, where I found the delay on the TDV6 that wasn’t on the SDV8 Confused

Think it might be as much to do with Land Rover throttle mapping as anything.

Same experience here.

Currently running a TDV6 (courtesy car from dealer) having moved the TDV8 on .

Not a whiff of turbo lag off the line with the 2017 V8 but have noticed it on a few occasions on the loan car.

It seems to be provoked if you approach a junction/roundabout and come to a virtual stop, then decide to go for it and hit the throttle. But the delay is probably fractions of a second, but seems forever as the cars not responded to your input.

Previously had a TDV6 RRS and that was the same.

Having previously owned two SDV6’s (twin turbo), before trying out the TDV6 (single turbo) and the buying the SDV8 (twin turbo), the lag appears to only be in the single turbo car, which would make a lot of sense - there’s always going to be a point low down in the rev range where a single, mid size, turbocharger isn’t small enough to respond.

Unless you’ve been spoiled by having got used to twin turbo’s, then there’s nothing wrong with a single one and people tend to automatically adjust their driving around the problem. Compared to a non turbo diesel ( Shocked ), a single turbo is still utterly brilliant! Thumbs Up

Whilst OP was 2017 and talking about a 'new' L405, not sure all L405 3.0 TDv6 are single turbo:

Range Rover TDV6 L405 (258PS) Twin Turbo EU5 9/2012 onwards

Rover Range Rover 4 TDV6 L405 (258PS) Single Turbo EU6 2/2015 onwards

That's right, they went from twin to single turbos.

Interestingly, the torque curve looks better with the single turbo.

Interestingly I used to buy new cars, mainly Jags ,every three years and the company just soaked up the loss - when I sold the company I started buying second hand usually a few years old and always pay cash. In the last three years I have gone out to buy a replacement for my 2007 s/c more than once but couldn't find what I was looking for so bought another buy to let I am there again but mine works perfectly and I just cant justify dumping cash for no real return - to buy a newer s/c is going to cost mine plus 40k and that another flat deposit not quite the same dilemma but similar
