I change mine every two years regardless - have the battery tested but a new one is not a bad investment anyway |

varta battery the big one fitted last November. 13.5volts coming from alternator. Charging light remains on. |

13.5 sounds low to me pal , id expect 13.8-14.2 with engine running |

Yep, I agree with Bembo - alternator should be charging at at least 14V preferably more. Bish.

Car on with the MD they suspect alternator failure. anyone ideas at likely costs. £110 per hour thought they would have a better idea than suspect?? |

New denzos are about 700 quid replaced mine on 4.2 supercharged the other week at ten years was ok but new one is belt and braces |

Shocking price really. A new alternator for an MG Midget is £60 and fitting time of no more than 20 minutes! .

You can buy the Denso from ECP for around £210 by the way.
