Saturday took the car for a 400 mile round trip. Sunday started first time but battery warning light stayed on, checked battery 13.75 v so alternator is charging. Took it for a short run and all sorts of lights began flashing Parking brake, ABS etc and display ran through fault programs No ABS, Parking brake fault, Transmission Fault, HDC inactive and many others that i didnt have time to note.
Monday checked battery volts. 12.68. not started. 13.8 when running but charging light still on.
Anyone any ideas?

Most likely you need a new battery.

I change mine every two years regardless - have the battery tested but a new one is not a bad investment anyway

varta battery the big one fitted last November. 13.5volts coming from alternator. Charging light remains on.

13.5 sounds low to me pal , id expect 13.8-14.2 with engine running

Have the battery tested first.

The bad news is that the 2007 TDV8 seems to have an unusually high failure rate for alternators.

Yep, I agree with Bembo - alternator should be charging at at least 14V preferably more. Bish.

Car on with the MD they suspect alternator failure. anyone ideas at likely costs. £110 per hour thought they would have a better idea than suspect??

New denzos are about 700 quid replaced mine on 4.2 supercharged the other week at ten years was ok but new one is belt and braces

Shocking price really. A new alternator for an MG Midget is £60 and fitting time of no more than 20 minutes! .
Experience is the only genuine knowledge, but as time passes, I have forgotten more than I can remember

You can buy the Denso from ECP for around £210 by the way.

Local RR specialist said they can do it on the TDV8 in 2 hours now.

I replaced the water pump the other day and could have done the alternator after seeing it properly, so would agree 2 hours if they know what they are doing no problem.

He said £350+vat fitted for a new one.

Land Rover quoted me £550 for the unit plus 3 hours labour so was coming in around £800.


Have you done a test for parasitic drain?
I was told the alternator and battery had been changed by the last owner, I started to doubt it hence getting quotes.
Turns out my car was drawing 1.1amp when asleep, it was the Bluetooth module that was knackered, I had all the issues you describe, once that was removed it was sorted.

Where are you getting the 13.5v value from? The display screen or the battery terminals?
Mine often blips between 13.5 and occasionally 14v on the nav screen, but reads a good 14.3-14.5v on the battery terminals. Porsche 911 (996)
