In the absence of a low side pressure value, what is the pressure reading with the aircon off (you also don't need the engine running) after the system has been standing for 1 minute and 10 minutes? Could you please also graph the pressure starting the engine with aircon on and then switch the aircon off whilst still recording data, this is to see the rate of rise and fall of the pressure.
Thanks.

With engine off I got no apparent readings?

I then did the test with the engine and air con on and got more or less the same readings as above. I switched the aircon off and the refrigerant preessure dropped by about 1 bar to between 10.6 and 10.8 bar and stabilised there.

Temperature remained constant at about 30C. Compressor clutch stayed showing as "off". When I was switching air con between on and off I could hear a slight "thump" which, I presume, was the clutch engaging.

Hope that helps.

I am having a little difficulty loading the graphs. John

No problem - it sounds like the system may well be overcharged unless you're in a high 40's ambient, 10.3 bar is way too high for a 'resting' system as you can see below (1bar = ~14.5psi)

AIR CONDITIONING OFF

AMBIENT TEMPERATURE (CELCIUS) R134a PRESSURE (PSI)
0 30
10 45
15 55
20 70
25 80
30 100
35 115
40 130

Sorry about the formatting!

Did you see how much PAG oil was put in? it should have been only the amount removed, if any, we don't usually put any in unless a component has been changed.

This might demonstrate why the low-side readings are as important as the high-side

BTW, I'm discounting condenser airflow from your issue as that would also manifest itself as engine temperature increased / cooling fan noise which you haven't mentioned.

I appreciate your replies. Thank you Thumbs Up
He used a machine. He asked me if there was rear air conditioning as he knew there were two possible amounts. I confirmed there wasn’t and he said he would put the lesser amount in.

The system has been working since the regass, which was about 4 months ago. Would an overcharged system take time to show?

I will have another go tomorrow to confirm the readings from today.

Just saw your later post. No evident problems with engine temperature. John

Can I check condenser air flow? John

Ah, didn't know of the time difference - airflow through the condenser which is mounted in front of the coolant radiator, would show up as high coolant temperature and / or excessive cooling fan activity.
The pressure reading is still high though, is there any way you can get a confirmatory reading done on the service ports by a garage or aircon specialist? It still could be a TCV or filter/drier issue but without both side pressure readings it's impossible to go any further by remote diagnosis! Wink

I’ll have a scout around in the area to see if I can find someone who can do it. Thumbs Up John
