Can I Replace the std door mirror with an Electrochromatic

Hi. I have to replace the whole of the drivers door mirror on my 03 TD6 Vogue and I dont think the one currently on the car is Electrochromatic (I could be wrong). Apart from the dimming facility not working, is there any reason (electrical connectors different etc) why I couldn't use an Electrochromatic one if that was the only replacement available? QUID FACIUM TIBI

Do the electrochromic mirrors have a pale blue tinge?

I'm also interested as I was given such a driver's mirror assembly by a friend and I don't know whether to fit it. Ron B. VK2OTC

You can get aftermarket ones for about £55 each rather than the LR branded ones at more than twice the price. Just search for the LR part number in google and it should come up. Tom

From my research the std ones are pale blue and the electro ones are brownish - is that correct? I am looking at an example of each that are virtually the same price but the electro one is in better nick. I just wondered if the plugs would not fit in the sockets if mine wasnt electro and I tried to fit one. Its will look up the vin tomorrow..... QUID FACIUM TIBI

Don't know about earlier models but on my 07 there are separate plugs for the heating element and elecrochromatic dimming. Worth bearing in mind that the entire system uses a sensors in the central rear view mirror - unless your vehicle already has electrochromatic dimming mirrors, I don't believe you can 'upgrade' easily. 2007 Zermatt Silver TDV8 Vogue SE - now sold but was a great car!

I had electro chromatic on my vogue, but when one started going misty from moisture between the layers I changed to standard glass as the e/c mirror glass was nearly £200 plus VAT from Land Rover, and around £140 plus VAT aftermarket!!

Yes, there is a two pin blue connector for the function, about 4mm X 4mm X 10mm, and the glass appears to have a light brown tint to it. To be honest, although a nice feature, not having it on the wing mirrors but still having it on the rear view, I can see a difference but it's not massive- unlike the price!

Having just recently clipped a wheelie bin and broken a door mirror glass, I too was stunned with prices up to £273, yes just for the glass the whole mirror is over £700 Shocked

Bearmach have an electrochromatic replacement which resellers are asking a mere £70 for.

Just read up on fbhin the wiki.
Apparently there is a outside air temperature sensor in the mirror n/s, for the fbh to work.
Thought I'd mention it, as replacement second hand could be off a petrol, and not many of those came with fbh.

Yes, thread resurrection...

Wondered if anyone could advise how hard it would be to add the auto dimming wing mirrors to my 2012 Westminster TDV8 which does have a electrochrome interior mirror?

Driving a lot at night and noticing the sheer volume of cars with lights out of alignment which is bad when they are traveling in the opposite direction but even worse when they are stuck to the back of you!

Thanks!
