Advice & Opinions on possible Purchase

Hi All

1st post on here but have been lurking on FFRR & RRSport for over a year.......

Been thinking about changing up to a FFRR for ages and have finally been pushed over the edge, so want to get this sorted ASAP (as it will be much more fun in the car on Xmas day rather than the sofa with the Outlaws (lol)...

Just posting to ask your opinions on a car I have seen and am thinking may be a good candidate (except for a couple of reservations).
The Car's a 2007/57 Vogue SE Java Blk with Jet Oxford.

Here's a couple of pics (hopefully)

The car's got approx 40k on the clock
Had Inspection 2 5k ago
Had 2 other services 15k (Initial) & 25k (Insp 1) (one concern is 1st service was not at a franchised dealer but 2 & 3 were and I have contacted the dealers and they have said what's been done - which was only the servicing tasks except new rear pads & wipers at 35k & nothing was on an advisory list to be done).

My only other concern is the number of owners as the log book will read 5 as, according to the selling independent the previous trade owner registered the vehicle when they were trying to change registration from a private plate? They are saying that the car has had
1 - Pre registered to original Dealership
2 - 1st Owner
3 - 2nd Owner
4/5 - Dealership? - This sounds a bit fishy to me but they have said that they will put all of this in writing to confirm what the previous trader advised.

The car's up for £37k

When buying cars I'm always more interested in condition, service history & the car being legit (as opposed to single owner, minimum mileage as it's only been to the end of the road every day etc etc) but the registered owner query and the 1st service not by a franchised dealer have me asking questions.

I'm just looking for some opinions from the guys (& Gal) in the know so hopefully this has all posted OK and thanks in advance for your advice!!

Good looking car, although the mileage is a tiny bit above average, but what do you expect with a Range Rover, hard to find a FFRR with the "normal" 10k miles a year. Price seems about right, maybe a few bob more than I would be willing to pay though.
The chrome side vents and mirror caps are not to my taste, but each to their own, but aside from all that, the 5 owners seems very weird, especially for a 3/4 year old car. Overall to me seems like a good buy, may want second opinion from more experienced people though Thumbs Up

Welcome.

Why would a dealer buy a car back?
Warranty?
Cust complaint?
Dealers don't need to register a car onto their books unless maybe it a faultless car! 15MY SDV8 Vogue SE

Looks like a great car, but in my view pricey, fundamentally it's no different to a car you could buy for £20k, so as long as your prepared to pay one hell of a premium for the lower mileage/age, I guess it's OK.

As for the first service, it wouldn't worry me, it's out of warranty now anyway isn't it? Though I guess that, along with the 5 owners will knock the resale value. Bottom line is you'll lose £20k in depreciation over 24 months, and you could still struggle to sell it due to high number of owners/ incomplete history.

I suppose what I'm saying is that if you want to spend that amount of money you could probably do better. You don't mention whether it's diesel or petrol, but for example for that money you could get a one year old car:

Just my opinion though! Smile Range Rover-less at the moment - Pining!

Thats a tidy car. A good choice if you decide to buy. I would def get more clarification about high numbers of owners though. FFRR TD6 HSE

Hi Jem0911
They were saying something about trying to re-register it from a private plate but how could a dealer expect to sell a car if they cannot even change the reg?
More digging required methinks.......thanks for the post.

Hi Bozmandb9
I've been looking for a while for a Vogue SE TDV8 and with this age and mileage (my limit was 40k miles) they were all in this ballpark (or much more from a franch.)
I tend to do up to 20k per year so did not really want anything with higher mileage as in reality after 2 years it'll would be running close to 70k most likely.
With regards to the HSE, I really wanted the SE spec, probably wont use 90% of it but I will use the rear TVs to keep the clan quiet in the back.

Do you really think that the owners will still affect resale after 24-36 months?

Hi GregP
Agree with you and Jem0911 say, more digging required.
I'll follow the ownership trail and see where things get strange (or maybe clarify things - hopefully).

The selling dealer is selling with 6 Months full labour & parts warranty (TBC the actual coverage) so I thought at least this will give some protection until I need the 3rd party warranty to cover any 'issues'.

I was planning on getting the car checked by a franchised dealer once I have it, so I can hopefully identify any glaring problems whilst it's still in the 6 month warranty. Any advice on a good dealer / independent who can look the car over should I bottom out this ' number of owners' query?

lastly does anyone else think this is overpriced for a '57, TDV8 Vogue SE with 40k?

Thanks for posting Greg

Any other opinions/advice guys?

I know some more digging is required but I was kinda hoping (I know it's lazy) that your opinions and advice would make it a pretty much GO / NO GO situation........

Hi, and welcome.

For me, it would be a no go. This mainly because of the number of owners, too many for a 3 year old car, and also the suspect 4/5 owners - just doesn't add up.

I would expect it to be going for around the £33000 to £34000 arena, despite the reasonable mileage, and that would be for a fully dealer serviced car, with no more than 2 owners.

It's a shame, as besides the strange things you mention, it looks a pretty tidy car.

Check all electrics thoroughly, and also the air suspension. The tdv8 is a good reliable engine, so, with all services, should be good. The only issues I've had with mine in a year and a half is air suspension fault, was faulty compressor exhaust valve, my sat nav antennae was faulty and needed replacing, condensation in rear light clusters, but were replaced under warranty. Oh, and a new battery too.

Sorry if this isn't what you want to hear, but I think you could potentially do better.

good luck, Cool Thumbs Up Thumbs Up

Hi SAppie

Thanks for the advice.

I'll see if I can bottom out this owners situation as I have the details of the 2nd from last and should be getting those of the last tomorrow so I'll contact them and see if they can shed any light.

From what you're saying it's still a bit expensive, I'm wondering if it due to lack of stock of these at the moment?

Seen a 2007 model '56 but that had 62k and was up for £32k (or was it £33k?) but I must say all that this one was about £1000 more than the others.....

Hmmmmmmm, maybe keep looking then, decisions decisions

Thx
