Heated seat pad

Front heated seat pad has gone and I have spotted a rear seat pad for £12. Does anyone know if the pads are interchangeable? I'm guessing they're not but you never know. I'm talking about the heated seat pad with element that plugs in.

Front seat heaters are built into the leather so are not interchangable... Thumbs Up

So what's the one on eBay advertised as "Range Rover Vogue 2006 on Front Heated Seat Base Element, HGL500040"? This looks like a pad.

I'm confused though...some people say there's wire built in to the foam base and that its difficult to replace but your link and the seat pad I've seen would suggest that the heated seat works as an element within a pad and not built into the foam seat base. Can anyone clarify. Maybe I'm having a blonde moment Very Happy

I think the 2002-2005 seat bases are different to the newer versions. I understood it that the older versions has the heating element built into the leather seat, but the newer versions have separate components. Tom

+1
Earlier models, pre 2005, have the heating elements stitched into the seat covers meaning a whole new cover is needed costing hundreds. Later models have separate heat pads costing around £35 each.
I wonder if later ones can be adapted to fit earlier seats with a wiring mod...hmmmm.

Well since I bought mine, the only thing that has never worked is the drivers heated seat.

This morning I managed to pick up on eBay a drivers seat with working element in the right colour for £30! I'm well chuffed!

Just need to wait for it to turn up now Smile

Ah but what year is yours?

The element is built into the cushion in the earlier cars. Maybe yours is post 2005 with a pad inlaid over the cushion? 2009 Vogue TDV8 Nara Bronze

It's a 52 plate, so with the pad built into the seat, that's why ther so blerdy expensive!

So a seat for £30 is a bargain Very Happy

Sounds like a bargain to me if that's a whole seat for £30?!

I picked up the seat base elements unstitched from a new seat cover for £40 from ebay and I thought that was a decent price.
I did a bit of diagnostics on my seat yesterday and found my seat back element is also US so deciding whether to bypass it or sort it before I commit to the repair.

Just to add the early (pre 2005) seat heaters are wired in series. There are 4 elements, 3 in the base and one in the seat back (some may only have the 1 element in the base). If only one of the seat elements is open circuit then you get no heating at all. The only important element is the centre seat base as that contains the feedback temperature sensor. It is possible to bypass the other elements and just use the seat base...provided that one is working of course!

Jock I saw your earlier post.

I have the classic problem of the drivers seat switch coming on for 4 seconds then going off hence the seat never works.

I suppose could always swap with the passenger side... 2009 Vogue TDV8 Nara Bronze

That's the same problem I have with my drivers seat, which points to a faulty element in the seat or an open circuit somewhere (connector or wiring issue).
You can check seat back element and two seat base side elements by removing the rear seat back (where the storage pocket is attached to) and checking the connectors inside with a meter. Checking the actual central seat base can be slightly more complicated depending on what you find with the other elements (if the others work and you measure an open circuit on the main connector under the seat the central base element is US).
I found I had 3 elements US, one base side, base central and back element!
As previously mentioned if the central base element is OK then you can bypass all the other faulty elements and the heating should work. I wouldn't recommend bypassing the central base element and using the others as the central base contains the temperature control feedback, with no feedback the elements could overheat.
Bypassing the faulty elements would be a cheap 'fix' providing the central base element is OK, unfortunately the central base element is probably one of the first to go!
