could be the output bearing on the gearbox, if the prop shaft was slightly out of balance it would kill the bearing gradually. It might well be that it's just a co-incidence that it happened after the oil change. |

The transmission doesn’t have an ‘output bearing’ as such (other than a small needle roller ‘steady’ bearing in the F-brake drum) because there’s a transfer box between it and the propshaft.

Aren't there bearings on the transfer box where the outputs go to the prop shafts?

There is no ball bearing on the transmission output - you must be looking at a diagram of a RWD version of the 5HP24 and not the 4WD version.

Isn't this just semantics? He said bearing not "ball" bearing? Bearing covers ball bearings, roller bearings (both straight and tapered) even white metal in the case of an engine. |
