Mk 4 Sat Nav problem

Much of the time the sat nav works fine, However every so often it will lock up, and then reboot.

Just recently it has started to do this multiple times until the unit is frozen out completely and a default alternative display comes up, I can still access all the other functions through the screen once this alternative display comes up.

A period with the car stopped will always cure this.

Is this a known failure mode? Is there a known fix?

Many thanks

Not had this myself, but have you checked the disc is clean. If so, its probably the disc motor on the way out.
There is a guy in Birmingham who advertises on eBay (navman I think) who fixes these things - best drop him a note - if you search for Mk4 DVD repair on eBay you'll find him - sorted out a problem I had with mine very quickly Current Fleet:-

This is caused by the TMC feature, if the TMC system receives too many messages at the same time is causes the until to continually reboot. Eject the disc then reboot the until and it should come back up normally the. Disable the TMC system in GPS Navigation and the issue won't happen anymore

I am working on a further upgrade to the v32 firmware that will fix this issue

I'm using Matt's software and don't have TMC enabled (I don't know if it's used in Oz) and I've had no problems. (Much nicer having LR Range Rover on the screen, too, rather than BMW.) Ron B. VK2OTC

I'll give that a try and see what happens.

It does only seem to happen once the unit has been on a while, so I guess it could be the messages building up. I was wondering if it was overheating or something like that.

A shame because I quite like the TMC, Be good to know when there is a fix available.

Thanks

I'm hoping to have the Range Rover firmware upgrade sorted to solve this issue over the next 4 weeks. I will announce it on this forum when it's ready.
