I take it you will be getting a refund for the sw upgrade then!? You pay for your car to be fixed - if they did not fix it you do not pay.

Its a nice thought, but I've never known a garage refund when issue turned out to be something else.

However, I'm more Censored that it was not covered under the LR approved used car warranty in the first place, so I posted a letter of to them saying saying so today.

The dealer I purchased the car from also confirmed today that they will pay for a new battery Smile

If they have said "you need this to fix it" and it doesnt fix it then it really is simple.

You wouldnt go to Tesco, pay for your shopping and then not take it home...

I hope to get a full refund for all the stuff I had done last week from Land Rover Warranty, but if that fails I will kick off to Marshals about the software update not fixing the problem. I really wish Guy Salmon in Sheffield where I bought the car from was closer, as they have treated my very well.

I will post an update when I hear back from Land Rover Warranty.

Marshals have agreed to refund the cost of the software upgrade on the grounds that it did not fix the stalling on startup problem. They have also fitted a new battery which Guy Salmon have agreed to pay for, so I'm just waiting for a couple of cheques to arrive in post and I'm happy bunny again.

Land Rover warranty wrote back stating that although the warranty is very comprehensive, it does not cover software upgrades and suggested I take this up with the dealer I bought the car from, but as Marshals have agreed to refund for the software upgrade there's no need to take this further.

FYI, the new battery has not solved the stalling on cold startup as it stalled again today (-8 outside), but as this can be overcome holding the car at 750 – 1000 RPM for a couple of seconds, I'm not going to waste any more time having it investigated.

Cheers

Mine does this as well! I thought it was the Mass airflow sensor, so replaced it, but no change. As you say, a little revving takes care of it, though I would rather get a full fix! Range Rover-less at the moment - Pining!

Good news, but as I've said before... the approved used is not the same as the original three year warentee. It's like one of those aftermarket ones you can buy from people like Warantee Wise etc... Sad

The stalling on cold startup got worse, so its currently back at the dealers for a 3rd time to investigate and fix.

I've uploaded a youtube video demonstrating the problem in the hope one of you may be able to suggest a fix.

i know its a completely different kettle of fish but i had a little rover 25 doing the exact same thing that two previous garages failed to fix, after some diagnostics and a bit of head scratching it turned out to be the battery. it would wind over no problem every time giving the impression of a good strong battery but as soon as it started it would stop just like yours, a quick and inexpensive way to to eliminate the battery is to connect a battery booster pack to it and see if it still does the same thing. it cant hurt to give it a go.

Could it be a fuel line leak.. not enough to let fuel run out but enough to allow air in.. I know it sounds odd but it can happen, thus allowing the main line to empty. You then have enough to fire up from an residual left in the injector rails. Once thats gone the pump needs to catch up.

I had a similar thing on a Diesel RR VM Classic 1990. The fuel pickup pipe had gone pourous. Took ages to find.

In your case it could be letting the pump run a while before trying to fire would ensure the fuel refilled the lines.. but the if the air can't shift quick enough there will still be a bubble / compressed air so it could theoretically still stall I guess... why below 4 degrees... possibly due to the components of the fuel line expanding and shrinking with temperate differences?

Just a consideration.. probably way off the mark mind. 2010 Disco XS TDV6, 2009 Freelander 2 GS

i wonder how many times you will vist the dealer to get the problem fixed but then give up !!!!
you see this so many times on the LR forums.
i just can't understand why they can't fix things.
i have been used to porsche for the last few years and traded a 2008 911S for a 2008 TDV8 last year.
never had 1 problem with porsche. (of course they go wrong) but when they go to official dealer for repair i have always found they come back repaired.
my RR is still at the local dealer (stratstone) for waaranty work. they have had it over 2 weeks now and still not fixed.
the only upside is they gave me a new RRS demo car to use and must admit the build quality seems miles ahead of the premium FFRR Rolling Eyes
have always loved the look of a FFRR but my experiences with the dealer and the vehicle up to now probably make me wish i had used my head and not my heart and bought a cayenne or Q7.....
sorry about the negativity i guess that's my rant for the day Surprised

My cold startup problem has been fixed Very Happy

As there were no faults logged, the dealership sent a full trace from all the engine ECU's whilst reproducing the issue to Land Rover head office. They responded with a new technical bulletin which contains updated software for the power control ecu.

It was considerably warmer (a balmy 8 degrees) when I collected the car at lunch time, but even so I could see the cold idle speed no longer drops during the first few seconds after start-up. Although the real test will be next time we get a frost, I'm confident it's finally been fixed.

Cheers

Great news! Don't suppose you got the LTB number?

Also i've got a 60 plate RRS HSE while mine is being sorted 4 weeks so far...

Piece of sh*te. Nasty plastic dashboard, flimsy gloveboxes, small cramped seats, constant small creaks etc etc. I'd rather have a Disco!

Just my opinion but I'd rather not spend c.£58k on a flimsy imitation with about 7" of ground clearance at the back.

Everyone at work who's been in it is really disappointed.
