They are public rights of way, so not really sure how/why they would have a problem with more than 4 vehicles?

That being said the main routes can probably be done together and the smaller routes split into two....

And no not moved recently - was in Trowbridge, now in Melksham (a few miles away) but that was like a year ago altho only just updated my profile info.

Dan, I agree re 4 vehicles, as I have been on the plain and witnessed at leats 50 historic tractors on one occasion and a similar number of 2CV's (of all things).

I think the 4 vehicle rule is more of a common 'unwritten' rule so as not to impact too greatly on the area. It sounds like there are enough people going who know what they are doing to enable the group to be split into smaller groups? If a route is planned then perhaps groups can leave at intervals.

As scarey says, nearer the time it may only be a group of 4!!

Agreed, I'm sure we'll have some drop outs. (maybe even me)

I think if you're on a standard green lane then 4 vehicles max is prolly fair enough. But these are the tracks the tanks and massive lorries drive over!

OK, well I couldnt wait so I went out and had a little play on the edge. But the flags were flying so couldnt venture far without going the long way round by Pewsey. Never played on snowy grass before, its VERY slippery! She's wearing Conti Cross Contacts...

Looks like you have driven off (what looks like the original) ROW into a field (exactly what the Land Warden's would have issue with). Shocked

The ROW is behind the car, in the distance is a farmers field. At this point the track splits into 3 or 4 directions with a bit of "scrub" in the middle. It borders the edge of the range, so obviously couldn't go any further unfortunately This is usually where the dog walkers park their cars.

So a, I wasn't hairing around a farmers field and b, I wasn't driving anywhere I shouldn't be. Shocked

In these conditions the roads around the edge are more of a challenge. I had opportunity to use HDC on a few of the very steep snow covered descents, and that was on tarmac.

That's one reason why I am very careful about what photos I put up on forums, they are accessible by a lot of people who aren't armed with the knowledge of where you are, or the lay of the land. I am not saying I drive off piste, or in large groups btw! As an ex-chairman of the DOC, MK4x4 and the founder of mud-club I have had to deal with repercussions of unclear photos appearing in newsletters or on forums Sad Land Rover Addict

To be fair if you've ever driven "The Plain" you'll know that following the right track is very difficult, as the Army make a few extra routes......

If you stray(slightly) the friendly Range Wardens will advise you. Never had any problems with them (Unless you ignore thier instruction)

Agree there! We were with a very experienced navigator (my wife!) when we came slightly unstuck, as in a smoke grenade bounced off my bonnet......

A quick visual check of a nearby tumnus and we realised we'd taken a "new" track over the proper one. That was a sharp exit I can tell you! Land Rover Addict
