Keeping on top of things...

Having managed to steer my way through some ecu/throttle problems ( http://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic34729.html ) I recently had another cause to use the GAP tool. Pointed to a PCV problem and having read this is a common fault, after 165000 miles it was worth investigating. I had promised myself I would do the cam cover gaskets and change spark plugs some time so today I bit the bullet and started these jobs. Used the forum wiki with much success Bow down thank goodness for fullfatrr.com!

Cam covers were fairly straight forward:



Gaskets were very hard and had welded the cover tight so much force was required to seperate





I was the faced with this:



I have no idea how the car was running at all:



Not only was oil weeping out of the cam covers but was dripping directly onto the exhaust from the disintegrated rubber pipe at the bottom of the cyclone(?)
I'll spend the next day or two gathering parts and then reassemble hopefully on Friday. I expecting rocket-like performance after fixing that lot!

yep I would say thats pretty FUBAR.

Should run much sweeter after swapping all that lot over. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Just a quick update: All back together on Friday with new parts, a straightforward job in the end apart from the fiddly small (5mm ish) pipe. Runs so much better, no more oil drips onto the exhaust and an improved mpg figure by at least 2! Result.
I'll change the oil tomorrow which will be the second time in 6 months, then I'll be happy to stick to the official intervals.

Quick update: I'm getting lambda control adaption fault codes for both banks about every 2 or 3 days. Could it be an air leak between the MAF and the throttle body? Having trouble getting this plastic tube to fit/seal properly.
