Whine or aero sound?
These cars can produce some serious aero sound from the side and bottom parts of the windscreen if they are not sealed correctly.

When I picked up mine, once i got over 140 it seemed like the tranny/engine/whatever was going to pop. There was a sound like a screaming monster from below.....wwwwhhhhhhooooooo. After some checks i narrowed it down to the windscreen bottom and side pieces. The side ones were easy, some punches over the fixings and in it went and never came out or dislodged again. the lower piece is a real problem which i'm still to resolve. Now when i get past 130 it seems i have a chip fryer from mcdonalds behind the dash....

So before worrying too much, check to see if the noise changes with the engine note, if it does.... Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad Evil or Very Mad

If not, go see if there's any gap between the rubbers and the windscreen. Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Its a noise like a wheel bearing but it didnt go when turning etc, then i did think it was an aero noise from the top of the wind screen. No oil under car this morning, and THE BLOODY NOISE IS NOT THERE THIS MORNING !!!!!

Note to self, stop worrying if it comes back get to LR !

Neither does a wheel bearing noise! Confused

In fact, a wheel bearing will typically become a more pronounced noise when turning - specifically in one direction over another. Also, if the noise has now disappeared it could still be a wheel bearing as they can take some warming-up before they start to moan again.

If the noise starts after some time (often dozens of miles) and is probably more noticeable on a particular type of corner then you've got your answer. If you hear the noise again, try covering the brake pedal with a very light foot - enough to put your brake lights on but not to slow you down. See if that stops it........ Wink

Oh, and if you still hear it when the car is stationary........ check for female passengers. Thumbs Up The older I get, the more I realise that people confuse wrinkles for wisdom Smile

Just recently mine has started making a sort of droning sound , more noticeable when slowing down without touching the brakes Question

Keep meaning to call into the local LR dealership and let them take it for a test run , sitting at 45k miles and just over 5 year old , must be due a major breakdown as not had many problems with the car ........ Rolling Eyes

Another option.

My car also makes a groaning sound, like a vvvvooooooo, around 2000 rpm, almost always when accelerating. Uphill is also very noticeable.
This seems to come from the passenger side (LHD car).

Went to the BIG BIG BIG Stealer, reported it and nthing. Then I took the chief mechanic with me, he heard it, and told me that every TDV8 he has seen with the same age/mileage, does that noise.

Check that one also.

I'm not sure which variant of FFRR you have (TDV8?) but when it's cold, the engine will rev higher than it does when it's warm for the same speed. This is all 'normal' and is to do with the car trying to warm it's oil (and gearbox oil) as quickly as possible.

To quantify this, I live within a mile of a main trunk road (dual carriageway). On a cold morning, I can get out onto the main road and be showing 2500rpm at 70mph. Within a few miles, this drops to the normal 2k revs and there is a resulting hush from the engine. I'd liken the warm-up revs sound to an engine racing a bit with a slipping clutch.

Just another thought............. Whistle The older I get, the more I realise that people confuse wrinkles for wisdom Smile

While you were here, you should have taken a few days off, at least untill the weekend, to check out the beaches of Algarve, very good. Golfing also a good option.

You should have enjoyed it while we still have a country. Maybe this time next year we'll be spanish property...
