Its a noise like a wheel bearing but it didnt go when turning etc, then i did think it was an aero noise from the top of the wind screen. No oil under car this morning, and THE BLOODY NOISE IS NOT THERE THIS MORNING !!!!!

Neither does a wheel bearing noise! In fact, a wheel bearing will typically become a more pronounced noise when turning - specifically in one direction over another. Also, if the noise has now disappeared it could still be a wheel bearing as they can take some warming-up before they start to moan again. If the noise starts after some time (often dozens of miles) and is probably more noticeable on a particular type of corner then you've got your answer. If you hear the noise again, try covering the brake pedal with a very light foot - enough to put your brake lights on but not to slow you down. See if that stops it........ Oh, and if you still hear it when the car is stationary........ check for female passengers. The older I get, the more I realise that people confuse wrinkles for wisdom |

I'm not sure which variant of FFRR you have (TDV8?) but when it's cold, the engine will rev higher than it does when it's warm for the same speed. This is all 'normal' and is to do with the car trying to warm it's oil (and gearbox oil) as quickly as possible. To quantify this, I live within a mile of a main trunk road (dual carriageway). On a cold morning, I can get out onto the main road and be showing 2500rpm at 70mph. Within a few miles, this drops to the normal 2k revs and there is a resulting hush from the engine. I'd liken the warm-up revs sound to an engine racing a bit with a slipping clutch. Just another thought............. The older I get, the more I realise that people confuse wrinkles for wisdom |

While you were here, you should have taken a few days off, at least untill the weekend, to check out the beaches of Algarve, very good. Golfing also a good option. You should have enjoyed it while we still have a country. Maybe this time next year we'll be spanish property... |
