Changing the discs each time with the pads is definitely overkill unless they are severely lipped / worn or out of true or corroded so the pads aren't working on their full surface area. .
Even for somthing as heavy & fast as a SC I would have thought every 2nd pad change would be fine.
I'm just changing them on our recent acquisition 2006 3.6tdv8 at 123,000miles - but they were working fine despite the 3mm lip each side & masses of rust.
The pads are less than half worn, so whoever changed them last was being rather lazy as they couldn't have been much better then Paul,
